Kacákova Lhota: Water, History and Tradition

Kacákova Lhota brings together water, architectural history and local traditions. A natural swimming pool is available in the village for recreation; streams, a preserved mill and historic buildings offer further insights into the character of the community. Local events also feature a variety of highlights, from a masked parade to a seasonal custom.

Streams, Natural Swimming Pool and Mill

Water can be discovered in Kacákova Lhota as both a leisure and landscape feature. The natural swimming pool offers an option for anyone who would like to include water in their plans for a stay. At the same time, the streams shape the description of the village: where the Trnávka flows into the Úlibický potok, the latter effectively divides the community into Kacákova Lhota and Náchodsko. The waterways are therefore also part of the local understanding of the community.

A preserved mill stands on the Mlýnský potok. The stream serves as a millrace and is fed by the Úlibický potok; the mill itself is not open to visitors. The connection between the two waterways and the millrace offers a distinct perspective on the landscape and how it has been used. If you are more interested in water and leisure than architectural history when planning your trip, the natural swimming pool offers a different focus from the historic sites.

Buildings and Historic Traces

The cellars of Náchodský dvůr are considered the oldest preserved structure in Kacákova Lhota. They date from the first half of the 17th century. The year 1546 is regarded as the first documented mention of the founding of Kacákova Lhota. These two dates offer different historical perspectives: the early mention of the village’s founding and a preserved structure from the following century.

A barn by the local outdoor swimming pool connects Kacákova Lhota with Ostružno. It was built there in 1881 as part of a farm complex that no longer exists, moved to Kacákova Lhota in 1996 and rebuilt by the outdoor pool. The barn has been protected since 30 June 1993. Its present location and its former use in Ostružno tell of different stages in its history.

A crucifix with an enclosure is also among the protected monuments: it is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. Its restoration was completed in autumn 2025. Several memorial crosses and wayside shrines add to the historic traces in the village. The range thus extends from the cellars of Náchodský dvůr and the relocated barn to smaller religious monuments.

Masopust and Morana

During the traditional Masopust in February 2026, a parade featuring numerous original masks and live music made its way through the entire community. At the end of the parade, a pig-slaughter feast was held at the local inn. The festivities thus included both the parade and a shared culinary gathering afterwards.

At the Morana event on 22 March 2026, winter was bid farewell and spring welcomed. The two examples highlight different occasions: Masopust centered on masks, music and a parade, while Morana marked the change of seasons.
