Discover Úlibice
Accommodation in Úlibice
Úlibice offers a perspective on both history and landscape. The present-day Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, traces of a former fortress and the landscape-defining feature Boží muka u Úlibic offer different ways of approaching the place. In addition, there is the Úlibice Pheasantry, a nature reserve and preserved remnant of a hardwood floodplain forest between Polabí and Podkrkonoší. Those who, when choosing a destination, look not only for major sights but also for distinctive historical and landscape details will find several clearly distinguishable themes in Úlibice.
Church and historical traces in Úlibice
The Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary is the most important historical reference point. It was first mentioned as a parish church in a description of the Diocese of Prague from 1344 to 1350. The present-day church was built later, between 1712 and 1716. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 7 February 1994. Thus, a single building allows visitors to trace both its medieval mention and the significantly more recent form of the present-day church.
A reconciliation cross stands on the northern edge of Úlibice. Traces of a former fortress are still visible on the rise near the church. The historical character of the place is therefore evident not only in a single religious building but also in smaller, differently classified remnants. Those interested in local history can consider these points as distinct themes without reducing Úlibice to a single era.
Boží muka u Úlibic, a landscape-defining feature dating from 1767, is also located on the northern edge of Úlibice. From there, views extend over part of Český ráj. This viewpoint therefore combines a specific historical date with a landscape connection that reaches beyond the locality.
The Úlibice Pheasantry: protected landscape with clear boundaries
The Úlibice Pheasantry was first designated as a nature reserve on 4 July 1956. It is a preserved remnant of a hardwood floodplain forest in the area between Polabí and Podkrkonoší.
The Úlibice Pheasantry lies away from all marked hiking and cycling trails and is not used for recreation or sport. It should therefore not be equated with a designated leisure or sports facility. This distinction helps with classification: the Pheasantry represents protected nature and landscape history, while the historical sites reveal other facets of Úlibice.
Orientation and access
No marked hiking route passes through Úlibice. The easiest access is via the roads from Jičín towards Nová Paka or Hořice.
