Dolní Lochov – Chapel of St. Anne, Nature Monument and Wayside Cross
Accommodation in Dolní Lochov
Dolní Lochov lies on the southern edge of Český ráj and combines a valley landscape with distinctive religious and cultural-historical points of interest. The village is situated by the Porák stream. Those wishing to combine nature, local history and living tradition during their stay will find several different reasons to explore Dolní Lochov. The combination of the valley landscape, natural destination and chapel hill gives the village various starting points for your own exploration.
Landscape by the Porák Stream
The valley by the Porák stream defines the immediate surroundings of Dolní Lochov. An important natural destination is the Svatá Anna Nature Monument, which lies partly within the cadastral territory of Dolní Lochov. It consists of a basalt hill covered by a mixed hornbeam-oak forest. Together, the hill and the forest define the natural character of this destination. The combination of a basalt hill and mixed hornbeam-oak forest distinguishes this natural destination from the religious and cultural-historical sites in the village.
An approximately 1 km route leads from Dolní Lochov to the Svatá Anna Nature Monument. It is about 1 km long and branches off from the red-marked hiking trail. The route connects the village with this natural destination. If you would like to combine an excursion into the landscape with a stay in the village, you can regard this path as a separate scenic focus alongside the cultural-historical sites.
Chapel and Pilgrimage Tradition
The Chapel of St. Anne stands on the hill above Dolní Lochov. František Josef Schlik had the chapel built. Its significance therefore derives not only from its position above the village, but also from the connection between its architectural history and pilgrimage tradition. The pilgrimage tradition to the Chapel of St. Anne was revived from 2005 onward. The chapel thus combines its construction by František Josef Schlik with the pilgrimage tradition that was resumed later.
A procession leads to the Chapel of St. Anne every year, where a Mass is celebrated with musical accompaniment. If you are traveling with your family or in a group and would like to discover local customs alongside nature, the chapel is therefore one of the defining features of Dolní Lochov.
A Dated Wayside Cross
The Boží Muka wayside cross is one of the village’s other cultural-historical landmarks. It was erected in 1860 at the expense of the municipality and restored in 2014.
Dolní Lochov as a Place for Nature and Tradition
When looking for a hotel or other accommodation, Dolní Lochov is particularly interesting if the combination of nature, local history and living tradition is the desired focus. You can organize your stay thematically: around the landscape by the Porák stream and Svatá Anna, the chapel and pilgrimage, or the cultural-historical traces represented by the Boží Muka wayside cross. Each of these focuses remains connected to a specific place, route or dated event.
