Vysoké Pole: Klášťov, Vysocká and Ploština

Vysoké Pole combines impressive history with paths through the landscape and special destinations for shared exploration. The village is particularly interesting if you would like to combine sites of cultural and historical significance, short excursions and tangible experiences in nature. The most distinctive highlights include the Klášťov hillfort, the two routes of the “Kočárková stezka”, the Vysocká pilgrimage chapel, the Envicentrum and a larch-wood lookout tower.

Klášťov: Hillfort and early history

The remains of the prehistoric and early medieval Klášťov hillfort lie within the municipality of Vysoké Pole. The site is located at an elevation of 753 metres; at the same time, Klášťov is considered the highest peak of the Vizovice Highlands in the Zlín Region. Klášťov is a prehistoric and early medieval fortified settlement and the highest hillfort of its kind in Moravia.

The hillfort was first built approximately between 900 and 750 BC, during the transition from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age. Iron deposits as well as agricultural and craft tools were discovered at Klášťov. These finds are associated with the interpretation of the site as a cult centre of the ancient Slavs. A visit therefore offers more than a viewpoint: here you encounter a place whose significance spans several historical periods.

Routes from the village centre

The “Kočárková stezka” consists of two routes running along surfaced paths that are also suitable for prams. They begin in the centre of Vysoké Pole, where you can park your car. One route leads to the national cultural monument at the site of the burned-down settlement of Ploština. The other reaches the Chapel of the Virgin Mary “Vysocká”, with a spring whose water is considered to have healing properties.

Another option is the “Over Klášťov to the Ploština Memorial” route. It also begins in the centre of Vysoké Pole and offers views of the White Carpathians. This allows you to choose between a path with explicitly pram-friendly routing and a route focusing on Klášťov, Ploština and the landscape of the White Carpathians.

Vysocká Chapel and getting there on foot

The pilgrimage Chapel of the Virgin Mary “Vysocká” was built in 1748 near a spring whose water is considered to have healing properties. The present-day pilgrimage chapel was consecrated on 5 June 1876. If you would like to reach the site on a longer walk, a 12-kilometre footpath leads from Valašské Klobouky railway station via Mirošov, Drnovice and Vysoké Pole to the chapel. Envicentrum and lookout tower

The Envicentrum in Vysoké Pole is an environmental centre that organises educational and information events. Envicentrum PRO KRAJINU Vysoké Pole is primarily dedicated to preserving traditional land-management practices in this region. Visitors can spend time with the farm animals there and walk through the landscape. The centre thus complements the historical destinations with an insight into regional landscape management and the keeping of farm animals.

Another destination is the Vysoké Pole lookout tower. The 15-metre-high structure consists of larch beams on a concrete base and can be reached directly from Vysoké Pole on foot.
