Tečovice: Hiking, Frescoes and Local Traditions

Tečovice combines an extensive network of trails with remarkable church art, small religious buildings and local festivals. Anyone planning a stay in Tečovice can choose between outdoor activities in the countryside and cultural discoveries in the village. It is particularly interesting that the area offers both a trail with viewpoints and polders and a church with 14th-century frescoes, as well as revived local traditions.

A network of trails for hiking and cycling

The Stezky mezi kopci trail network is suitable for hiking, Nordic walking, running and mountain biking. Most of the trails are passable by mountain bike. This makes the trail network suitable for travellers who want to spend their days in different ways: taking a leisurely walk, running for exercise or riding a mountain bike. Information boards with trail maps, tourist signposts, benches and panoramic boards at viewpoints are available to help with orientation.

Tečovické stráně: a 9 km trail

One specific way to explore the surroundings is the red-marked Tečovické stráně trail. It is 9 km long and runs mainly through the area around Tečovice. In Tečovice, the trail passes the Kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího church. Along the trail there are viewpoints as well as polders built by the municipality. This means the trail combines views of the landscape with a cultural destination directly in Tečovice, without requiring the two themes to be considered separately.

Church, chapel and special details

The Kostel sv. Jakuba Staršího church was originally a Romanesque building dating from the late 13th century. It was later rebuilt in the Gothic and Baroque styles. Frescoes from the 14th century have been preserved in the nave and chancel. Visitors can also see a valuable pulpit and a baptismal font from the 13th century. For a cultural tour, the church therefore offers several historical layers: its original Romanesque form, later alterations and furnishings from different centuries.

North of Tečovice, the Kaplička sv. Rodiny chapel stands beside a road and dates from around 1800. Its interior walls are covered with paintings by Josef Mikeš. The small building complements the larger church with a religious art site of a different character and is one of the independent discoveries to be made around Tečovice.

Local traditions

The festival calendar is also part of Tečovice’s character. The Tečovské hody is a revived local tradition. On 18 October 2025, it included a festive procession featuring the leading of a ram. The Tečovská pouť is another traditional local festival. Both names refer to customs that extend beyond individual sights and allow visitors to experience the village through its local events as well.
