Návojná: Landscape, Traditions and Excursions

The Závrší area near Návojná combines protected landscapes, Wallachian traditions and specific excursion destinations. It lies in the CHKO Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area near the Czech-Slovak border. For active days, the Valašské pastorále hiking route is a good choice: it is 23 kilometres long, moderately difficult and leads through the surroundings of Závrší. Its length makes it a full day of hiking rather than just a short detour. The three Wallachian municipalities in this area are Návojná, Nedašov and Nedašova Lhota.

Landscape around Závrší

The Valašské pastorále route runs over the hills around Závrší and through several nature reserves and natural monuments. Traditional sheep grazing has been reintroduced there. A notable natural site is the Pod Horou Natural Monument, a protected, flower-rich meadow in the White Carpathians. Orchid species documented there include, among others, the elder-flowered orchid and the mountain orchid.

The original character of the Závrší area has also been preserved: traditional wooden houses and abundant greenery define the landscape. This makes the area particularly appealing to visitors who want to combine a hike with protected landscapes, regional architecture and botanical highlights.

Cultural Monuments and Castle Park

Notable cultural attractions include the Chapel of the Holy Trinity and Wooden House No. 4. The chapel is a local cultural monument designed as a brick bell tower. Wooden House No. 4, including its furnishings, is an example of local folk architecture. Together, they represent two different forms of local cultural heritage: a brick bell tower and an example of folk architecture.

Návojná Castle was completed in 1851. Its historic park contained more than two hundred cultivated woody plants. Combined with the preserved wooden architecture, this creates a cultural focal point that clearly differs from a purely nature-oriented excursion.

Summer Swimming Pool and Experiences with Children

The Návojná outdoor swimming pool operates every season in July and August. The swimming pool complex includes a paddling pool with a water play feature, a small slide and a play area for children. Its facilities combine water-based activities with a dedicated play area, adding a seasonal activity to a day of hiking.

Customs Throughout the Year

Návojná maintains the tradition of a Fašank procession with social gatherings and a tasting of traditional Zabijačka specialities. During Easter, the traditional procession of tragačníci and klepáčníci forms part of the local customs. In the run-up to Christmas, a St. Nicholas procession with devils and typical masks from Závrší passes through the municipality.

The Návojská osmička event also returned for the third time after two successful editions. Those choosing accommodation in Návojná can therefore weigh up nature experiences, cultural attractions, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and regional events as different focal points of their stay.
