Church, Crypt and Memorial Sites

The Church of Saint Nicholas stands on original Gothic foundations from the 14th century and was remodelled in the Baroque style in the 17th and 18th centuries. Gothic foundations and Baroque alterations can therefore both be seen in the same building. Its architectural history makes it an important point of reference for anyone wishing to trace Fryšták’s historical layers. There is a crypt beneath the church. Several members of the Minkvice family are buried there, including Jan Adam and Regina M. of Lukov Castle, as well as senior officials of the estate.

Next to the church stands a memorial chestnut tree more than 250 years old. The landscaped area between the church and the parish house also contains a bust of the first Czech Salesian, Fr. Ignác Stuchlý. A Mass is regularly celebrated in this area as part of Staříčkova pouť; important spiritual and cultural gatherings are also held there.

Historic Buildings at Náměstí Míru

Hrubá hospoda stands at Náměstí Míru, a 17th-century building with a Renaissance core. It has vaulted ceilings, a mázhauz, and large cellars. The site adds an example of secular architecture to the Andrýskov Educational Trail and makes clear that Fryšták’s history is not limited to the church.

The former hospital in Fryšták now serves as a resting place with an indoor well. Dům Ignáce Stuchlého is also relevant when planning accommodation: especially during the summer season, it offers catering and accommodation options for visitors to the town.

The annual markets are also part of the town’s history. Their tradition began with an edict issued by Emperor Ferdinand I in 1550 and was later confirmed by Joseph II in 1784 and Francis I in 1794. The market tradition thus dates from the 16th to the 18th century. This sequence anchors the market tradition in several historical periods and gives the town’s history another firmly handed-down dimension alongside its buildings.
