Drnovice U Valašských Klobouk
Drnovice U Valašských Klobouk combines an impressive culture of remembrance with viewpoints and trails through the Vizovické vrchy and Bílé Karpaty nature parks. Those looking for accommodation can therefore consider the town as a base for a variety of days during their holiday: on the one hand, there are Ploština and its historical memorial sites; on the other, hiking and cycling routes, viewpoints, and an educational trail.
Memorial Sites and Regional History
Ploština lies 3 km north of Drnovice and was a former Pasekář settlement in the cadastral area of the municipality of Drnovice. In the 1970s, Ploština was declared a National Cultural Monument. The memorial there commemorates the victims of the Second World War and the occupation from the Zlín District. It was built in 1975 and extensively reconstructed in 2008.
The memorial site includes the permanent exhibition “Pasekář Settlement Ploština.” It presents the Pasekář way of life and Pasekář colonization as a characteristic settlement phenomenon of Wallachia. The pillars of the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows bear plaques with the names of all the murdered Pasekář settlers. The newly built chapel was consecrated.
Drnovice itself also has a distinctive sacred building. The Church of Saint Agnes of Bohemia is a modern Catholic filial church. It was built in 1990 and consecrated on July 21, 1991.
Northwest of Drnovice lies Mount Klášťov in the Vizovické vrchy Nature Park. The remains of an extensive fortified settlement can be found there.
Viewpoints for a Stay with Various Day Plans
Drnovická vyhlídka was built in 2023 on a hill between Drnovice and the Ploština settlement. It was designed as a tourist viewpoint and rest area. The site includes a year-round, wheelchair-accessible outdoor exhibition. This makes it possible to combine the viewpoint with a cultural visit without the two experiences repeating the same subject.
Another option is Rozhledna Drnovice: the wooden observation tower is 8 m high and freely accessible.
Hiking and Cycling
Several hiking and cycling routes lead from Drnovice through the Vizovické vrchy and Bílé Karpaty nature parks. For a hike with designated learning stations, the Vařákovy paseky educational trail is an interesting option: it includes 15 marked stations. From Drnovice, it can be reached via Osada Ploština, Pod Sveradov, and the Bařinka trail junction, and it lies approximately 12 km from Drnovice.
A specific tour is also documented for cycling. The cycling tour to Rozhledna Drnovice is listed as 1.8 km long with an elevation gain of 100 m and is described as suitable for MTB, cross, and road bikes. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether the trip should focus more on memorial sites and regional culture or on hiking and cycling experiences.
