The first surviving written reference to Svobodné Heřmanice appears in a document issued by Pope Innocent IV in Lyon in 1250. The founding of Svobodné Heřmanice is closely connected with the colonizing activities of the Cistercian order. Together, these two references provide the local history with a specific chronological and historical framework. The village is home to the Church of the Holy Trinity. It is a Neoclassical church built in 1786 on the site of a wooden church erected around 1560 and demolished in 1785.
