Bruntál Chateau is a good cultural starting point. A late Gothic castle was transformed into a Renaissance chateau at the end of the 16th century. In the publicly accessible interiors, you can see, among other things, a chapel and rooms on the first floor with Rococo wall paintings and original furnishings. The chateau also houses the permanent exhibitions “Nature of the Bruntál Region” and “Craftsmanship Pays”.

It presents a shoemaker’s workshop, a tailor’s workshop and a grocery store. There are also sensory stations featuring gingerbread spices, craft tools and an anvil. This allows you to encounter the crafts and trades of the Bruntál region from the 19th and early 20th centuries not only through texts, but also through tangible working environments. In the chateau park, the remains of the town walls, a sala terrena, a bastion and eleven sculptures recall further layers of the town’s history.

The reconstructed rooms of Sovinec Castle also focus on the history of the complex. The main tower offers views over Sovinec Nature Park. Another historical experience is provided by the narrow-gauge Osoblažská Railway: its track gauge is 760 millimetres, it is 20.2 kilometres long, has 102 curves and has been in operation since 1898.

Slezská Harta, Mountain Nature and Activities

Slezská Harta was created in the 1990s and is also known locally as the “Jeseníky Sea”. Swimming, boating, fishing, sailing and windsurfing are possible there. Several extinct volcanoes rise around the reservoir and can be viewed from excursion boats. For orientation, the Slezská Harta Tourist Information Centre is located at the harbour in Leskovec nad Moravicí. It provides information about transport connections, regional attractions, and cultural and sporting events.

The spa town lies at an altitude of about 800 metres on the eastern side of Praděd, in the valley of the Bílá Opava. The local mineral springs are used for carbonic acid baths, drinking cures and gas baths. The Bílá Opava nature trail follows the deeply cut valley of the Bílá Opava stream into the highest areas of the Hrubý Jeseník mountains.

Vrbno Bike Park can be reached from the lower station of the ski area via Poštovská cesta, which is marked as route 6069 on tourist maps. Three downhill courses with different levels of difficulty lead down from the summit. Ski Annaberg in Andělská Hora has three ski runs; alpine and cross-country skis, snowboards, sledges and bobsleighs are also rented and receive basic maintenance there. Visitor parking is located directly next to the ski slope.

Osoblažsko: Trails, Farms and Regional Cuisine

Osoblažsko complements its natural and cultural experiences with a small-scale landscape featuring designated trails. The KČT hiking network includes routes such as “From Station to Station through the Land of Hotzenplotz the Robber”, “A Land of Lookout Towers with a View”, “Through the Heart of Osoblažsko”, “Osoblažské Jeseníky” and “Mountainous Osoblažsko”. In addition, there is a network of unmarked cycling routes with maps, GPS coordinates and contacts for accommodation and dining options.

Those who would like to focus their stay more strongly on rural experiences will find agritourism and equestrian tourism in Osoblažsko, including animal care, farm work and horseback rides through the gently rolling landscape. Culinary traditions are presented at the “Taste Osoblažsko” gastro festival, which has been held since 2012 and showcases local specialities prepared by teams from the municipalities of the microregion. The Fruit Trail leads through Opavsko, Krnovsko and Osoblažsko, with 14 stops. It focuses on orchards, old and regional fruit varieties, traditional processing methods and the historical use of the landscape.
