Stará Ves in the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area

Stará Ves is located in the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. The entire cadastral territory of Stará Ves belongs to this protected area, and more than 80 % of the area is covered by forests. The protected landscape and extensive forest areas thus shape the character of the village. Here, a nature-oriented environment combines with the opportunity to explore cultural and historical sites during the same stay. Depending on the season, hiking, winter sports or the history of the villages and castles may take centre stage.

Hiking and Mountain Destinations

In summer, Stará Ves and its surroundings are suitable for hiking. The village is also a possible starting point for the ascent to Jelení studánka. The mountains Soukenná, Pec, Břidličná hora and Jelení hŕbet are located in the surrounding area. These mountain destinations offer various starting points for planning hiking days. Hiking plans can therefore be focused either on the ascent to Jelení studánka or on the surrounding mountains.

Stará Ves is located on the Šumperk–Ostrava bus route. This connection can be taken into account when planning your journey. Šumperk and Ostrava can therefore serve as different reference points for travel arrangements. When choosing where to stay, you can also consider whether the trip should be shaped primarily by nature experiences, active days or cultural and historical discoveries.

Winter Between Downhill and Cross-Country Skiing

For alpine skiing, there is a downhill slope below Anenská Huť that can be used for this purpose. In addition, the municipality of Stará Ves participates in the expansion and maintenance of cross-country ski trails. These include new routes as well as facilities with bridges and culverts. A piste groomer maintains the trails. This distinction helps you decide early on which activity you want to focus on during your stay.

Village History and Regional Culture

The history of the village is also connected with specific sights. On Potočná Street in Stará Ves stands a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the late 18th century, which has been extensively restored. It is therefore one of the visible historical elements in the village and complements the nature and sports themes with a single cultural and historical landmark.

The Žďárský Potok Village Heritage Zone preserves the built environment of a Jeseníky village from the 17th century and includes surviving log buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The chronological layering makes it possible to compare the older village structure with later log buildings there. In the wider regional surroundings of Stará Ves are also Hrad Brníčko, a castle, and Nový Hrad, a castle ruin. The local village structure, the Baroque statue and the regional castles create different points of emphasis: they turn a stay in the landscape into an encounter with the region’s architectural and local history as well.
