Razová on the shores of Slezská Harta

Razová lies on the left bank of the Slezská Harta reservoir. The village therefore combines a distinctive waterscape with traces of geology, craftsmanship, and a long history. Waterscape and Geological Features

One special feature of the surrounding area is the Razovské tufity. Basic thermal biotopes with heat-loving plant species that do not otherwise occur in the area have developed on the walls of the old quarries. The Razovské tufity also reveal a 12 m thick exposure of pyroclastic sediments. This refers to deposits of volcanic material. They were probably deposited in the bay of a periodically existing lake during the volcanic activity of Velký Roudný at the end of the Tertiary or the beginning of the Quaternary. This geological character gives the landscape around Razová a distinctly different character from a purely lakeside landscape.

History Between Lime Burning and Quarries

The earliest surviving written records of Razová date from 1288. A later chapter in the village’s history is represented by the Vápenná pec: it lies about 2 km from Razová in the direction of Leskovec and was built in 1912 for lime burning. In 2001, it was opened to the public and is now a technical monument. Volcanic tuffites were also quarried near Razová in two sandstone quarries and processed into decorative stone. The history of the surrounding area is therefore reflected not only in dates, but also in the materials extracted and used here.

Educational Trail and Excursion Planning

The Vápenná pec educational trail begins on the edge of Razová at a bay on the left bank.
