Krasov – Hiking at Krasovský kotel and Historic Churches

Krasov combines a protected natural area with marked hiking trails and notable cultural monuments. The Krasovský kotel nature reserve lies north of the village, while within the village itself, the Baroque branch church of St. Catherine and other historical landmarks provide distinctive points of interest. Hiking through Krasovský kotel

The Krasovský kotel nature reserve serves to preserve a species-rich meadow ecosystem. Its special features include endangered and declining plant species, particularly Gladiolus imbricatus. The protected status therefore does not describe an ordinary meadow area, but rather a site with documented botanical significance.

A marked hiking trail runs through the nature reserve. From Krasov, it follows green markings to the Pod Lysou trail junction. It then continues northwest on yellow markings via the Krasovský kotel trail junction and past the summit of Kozí vrch. In addition, a green-marked hiking trail runs through Krasov. The route described makes the village a starting point for planning a hike in which you can clearly distinguish the section from Krasov from the other landmarks along the way.

For longer hiking plans, the Krnovská padesátka, a 50-kilometre long-distance hiking route, is also documented. It therefore represents a different route format from the marked trail through Krasovský kotel: while the latter describes the specific sequence of trail junctions and the summit of Kozí vrch, the Krnovská padesátka refers to a separate long-distance route.

Cultural History in the Village

The Baroque branch church of St. Catherine in Krasov dates from 1677 and features rich stucco decoration. Its building history also includes a comprehensive reconstruction between 1867 and 1878. The church is an immovable cultural monument and thus combines Baroque design, later structural alterations, and an explicitly documented protected-monument status.

Another church was built in Krasov in the 1930s and is referred to as the Czech Brethren Church. The village therefore has two different ecclesiastical points of reference: St. Catherine, originating in the 17th century, and the later building erected in the 1930s. Those interested in regional history can include this chronological and denominational distinction in their exploration.

Below the church in Krasov stands a war memorial dedicated to the victims of the First World War. It has been attributed to the academic sculptor Josef Obeth (1874–1961).
