Dolní Moravice combines a history dating back to 1258 with protected landscapes, distinctive buildings and a clearly described cycling loop. Historical Traces in the Town

The filial Church of Saint James the Greater dates from 1795. Its presbytery is Renaissance in style, while the tower dates from 1593. The building thus combines several historical periods in a single visible ensemble. In the centre of Dolní Moravice, there is also a Baroque sandstone column depicting the Holy Trinity. It dates from 1752 and is regarded in the region as a particularly distinctive work in terms of iconography and typology.

At the southern edge of Dolní Moravice, the Baroque sandstone statue of the Immaculata stands on a tall column. The statue is not attributed to any artist and is dated to 1764. Another notable feature is the stone road bridge with two arches over the Moravice. Its distinctly ascending roadway is characteristic of bridges of the so-called Swedish type. Such details also give a town visit substance if you are not looking for a large museum complex.

Landscape, Views and Regional Features

Dolní Moravice is part of the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. Near the village square and the road from Rýmařov to Karlova Studánka, there is a shelter with the source of Moravická kyselka on the Moravice River. For orientation in the area, the village square, river and historic landmarks thus provide different reference points.

The Nová Ves observation tower in Dolní Moravice is 31.3 metres high and was built in 2014. From there, there are three views of the Hrubý Jeseník ridge. The tower complements the town’s historical attractions with a landscape vista and adds another clearly distinct activity to your travel planning.

Cycling from Dolní Moravice

The Dolní Moravice–Nová Ves–Valšov cycling loop and return is 36.3 kilometres long. It is directly accessible from Dolní Moravice; during the summer season, bicycle buses stop there. The specified route length makes it easier to assess when comparing different excursion options, without assigning the route an unsubstantiated travel time or difficulty level.

Insights into Mining History

The mine workings in the Nová Ves mining district are not accessible. Only extensive spoil heaps of extracted material can be visited; today, they are heavily overgrown with forest. The site therefore represents a historical trace whose present-day perception is explicitly shaped by its limited accessibility.
