Vysoké Veselí combines a varied nature trail with protected woodland landscapes, historic sacred art and notable traces of the town’s history. This creates a destination where active days, nature observation and cultural discoveries can be combined. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Vysoké Veselí, you can therefore first decide whether your focus should be on hiking and cycling, on culture or on a combination of both.

A nature trail for hiking boots and bicycles

The Vysoké Veselí nature trail leads via Kákovice, Veselský háj, Velešice, Sběř and Kozojedy to Češov and back via Volanice. Including its branches, it is 18.6 km long. This gives you a clearly defined opportunity to get to know the surrounding area not just from a single viewpoint, but as a succession of different landscapes and place names.

The nature trail is suitable for hiking and cycling, including trekking, cross-country and mountain bikes. This makes it an interesting basis for a variety of day plans: you can experience the route on foot or tackle it by bicycle as a longer active excursion.

Veselský háj: Forest, pond and rare plants

Veselský háj is protected as a nature monument. It includes valuable oak-hornbeam forests as well as old acidic oak forests with sessile oaks (Quercus robur). The Smrkovák pond is also located within the nature monument and is considered an important ornithological area. For visitors interested in nature, this creates a different focus from the nature trail: the emphasis is not only on the distance covered, but also on the distinctive character of the protected habitats.

Its botanical importance is evident from several rare and specially protected species. The nature monument provides suitable conditions for the highly endangered superb pink (Dianthus superbus L. s.s.) and the Siberian iris (Iris sibirica). Other specially protected species include the variegated monkshood (Aconitum variegatum) and the violet helleborine (Epipactis purpurata). These precise references to nature give your stay a depth that goes beyond a general forest walk.

Church, Renaissance house and Baroque traces

The built-up part of Vysoké Veselí also offers points of interest for a cultural day. The first written mention of the Church of St Nicholas of Tolentino dates from 1335. Its current appearance derives from a Baroque church built in 1770, which was later rebuilt in the Empire style after a fire. Its architectural history thus connects several eras, without requiring you to reduce the site to a single historical period.

The oldest house in Vysoké Veselí is a large, multi-storey Renaissance house with an arcaded gallery, built in 1586. On the village square, beside a through road, stands a sandstone pillar with a Pietà. The unsigned sculpture on it dates from 1808. The Pietà pillar is also considered valuable evidence of the continuation of Baroque forms in a rural setting into the early 19th century.

Another sandstone pillar stands on the road to the chateau, this time bearing a statue of Saint Wenceslas. This unsigned sculpture is also dated, to 1807. The historical picture is completed by the original fortress, which was converted into a Baroque chateau after 1745 and has since been modernized. A garden was laid out on the former fortifications.

Tradition and orientation on site

The Vackovo Vysoké Veselí concert, traditionally held at the end of June, presents leading artists from the field of brass music. For travel planning, this event is a special cultural reference point if the timing of your stay allows. The local public library is Vysoké Veselí’s cultural information centre and complements the visible sights with a place to turn to for cultural orientation locally.
