Church and village character
The Church of Saint John the Baptist was consecrated in 1871 and has been considered fully completed since 1874. It is a Neo-Romanesque, three-nave church, characterised by its unrendered, regularly hewn sandstone blocks. The church stands on the edge of the settlement on the road by the cemetery. The Válečné muzeum Újezd pod Troskami is located directly on the village square next to the former U Kolářů inn or shop. The two cultural sites are therefore situated in different parts of the village.War history at the Válečné muzeum
The Válečné muzeum Újezd pod Troskami presents exhibitions on the Austro-Prussian War, the First World War, the First Czechoslovak Republic and the Second World War. A particularly specific focus is the documentation of seven aircraft crashes from the Second World War. Explanations based on archival material, fragments from the crash sites and contemporary photographs turn this subject into a collection drawing on local connections and a range of historical sources. The museum therefore offers not only an overview of several periods, but also an insight into individual events made comprehensible through artefacts and visual material. A monument in Újezd pod Troskami also commemorates the victims of the First World War. It was restored in 2017 and bears the names of local residents who fell in the war. There is also a monument to the unknown soldier by the municipal office.Monuments, traditions and other places
Further historical points of reference can be found in Újezd pod Troskami, Semínova Lhota and Čímyšl. The monument to the victims of the First World War in Semínova Lhota dates from 1920 and bears a list of the names of fallen residents. A crucifix by the fire station in Semínova Lhota has been protected as a cultural monument since 31 August 2011. Čímyšl is home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It was rediscovered in Austria near Linz in 2012, returned in a damaged condition, restored and re-erected in Čímyšl. Religious traditions are also part of the village character. The cross in Újezd pod Troskami is designated as a pilgrimage site. The Májová pouť takes place every year on the first weekend of May and begins with a mass in the Church of Saint John the Baptist. At the Christmas market during the first week of Advent, bread spread with lard and a warm drink are traditionally served. These two events represent different seasons and connect the village with religious and local rural customs, respectively.Na víně Natural Monument
