Údrnice combines a distinctive rural landscape with traces that reach far back into history. The village lies in the southwestern part of the Jičín region, in a flat valley. To the east and northeast, this valley is protected by the gentle rise of Na Vrchách. This gives you a destination whose character is shaped not by a single attraction, but by the interplay of the village structure, historic sites, traditional customs and a cycling route running through the village.

Landscape between the valley and historic fields

North of Údrnice, the historic Plužina field system is being reconstructed. It consists of long, narrow fields that were originally laid out in the Middle Ages, follow the shape of the slope and still play an important role in erosion control. This distinctive field structure makes visible how closely the use of the land and the shape of the landscape are connected. Anyone who values a clearly rural character when choosing accommodation will find here a specific feature that distinguishes Údrnice from a purely urban base or one focused exclusively on individual excursion destinations.

Zlivštejn and the history of St. Martin

The Zlivštejn archaeological site, also known as Hrádek, lies west of and above the western edge of Údrnice. What remains there is an almost circular central mound surrounded by a ditch and a rampart up to 3 metres high. Zlivštejn is also considered an exceptionally well-preserved manor estate of a type between a fortified residence and a castle. The names and surviving forms point to a historic complex whose present-day significance lies above all in its specific form and its classification between two types of structure. The centre of Údrnice has been located in the area of St. Martin’s Church since the 9th century. The parish Church of St. Martin is protected as a historic monument; its register number is 23855/6-1419. The foundations of the parish church were laid at the beginning of the second half of the 14th century. The village’s history can therefore be traced at a clearly defined site: the area around the church has been connected with the centre of Údrnice for centuries, while the surviving building fabric also documents a later medieval construction phase.

Cycling, leisure and local traditions

International cycling route No. 14 from Berlin to Prague runs through Údrnice. It is marked in the terrain and on maps. Families will also find a playground, a children’s playground and a swimming pool in Údrnice. These facilities complement the historical discoveries with options for spending a day in a less culture-focused way. Local traditions are also part of the character of the village. Flax was traditionally processed and linen was produced in Údrnice. Customs maintained over generations included wedding and baptism traditions. The Údrnické Letní Vánoční Trhy event at the Údrnice cultural centre was also announced for 22 August 2026 from 4 p.m.; this date has already passed. When planning further, you can therefore distinguish between enduring traces of the landscape and history, leisure facilities and events tied to specific dates. For further searches beyond Údrnice, you can also consider Újezd Pod Troskami, Meziluzi, Lazne Belohrad, Kumburský Újezd, Butoves, Zelenecká Lhota, Úhlejov and Dolní Lochov.
