Rašín combines a gently rolling agricultural landscape with remarkable traces of history and distinctive natural and cultural attractions.

Agricultural Landscape Between Fields and Watercourses

Rašín lies in the Cidlinská tabule, a flat hilly landscape in the catchment areas of the Cidlina, Javorka and Bystřice rivers. The specific landscape is only gently rolling. For more than a century, Rašín has been largely surrounded by fields, where sugar beet, maize, cereals and potatoes have been grown throughout the entire documented history. A network of field paths with grass-covered ditches runs through this agricultural landscape and makes its agricultural character visible, without implying any specific use or signposted excursion offer.

Rašín lies in the catchment area of the Rašínský potok stream. It flows into the Bašnický potok stream above Bříšťany. The Turnov–Hradec Králové railway line is also relevant for orientation: Rašín lies between the Jeřice and Třebovětice stations.

History and Visible Culture

The written history reaches far back: Rašín was first mentioned in documents in 1134. Jan, the Bishop of Prague, bought Rašín and donated it to Strahov Monastery. At the end of the 18th century, the village was known for horse breeding. These historical milestones give today’s landscape an additional sense of temporal depth.

Small architectural features, war memorials, sculptures and bell towers in the village have cultural and historical value. A considerably more extensive art collection can be found at the U Sv. Gotharda I and II sculpture park, which contains more than one hundred sandstone sculptures by sculptors from Europe, Asia and America. The sculpture park is freely accessible year-round, making it an independent cultural element for travel planning, regardless of whether you are more interested in historical connections or modern art in public spaces.

Kazatelna Nature Monument

The “Kazatelna” nature monument was designated in 1998 in the cadastral area of Rašín, which partly belongs to the municipality of Ostrov, covering an area of 69 hectares. It contains a xerothermic woodland of the Quercion alliance, with protected and endangered plant species. The technical term “xerothermic” refers to a particularly dry and warm habitat. Visitors should stay on the marked paths. Kazatelna can also be reached via the municipality of Klenice, so precise orientation to this natural attraction remains a separate part of excursion planning.

Further Travel Ideas

As additional stops, you can note the Dachova natural outdoor swimming pool, with its remarkable 1920s wooden architecture, as well as the Hořice Trails. The Hořice Trails comprise three publicly designated routes with a total length of 3.7 km. Alongside landscape and history, this provides a swimming facility with distinctive architecture and a clearly defined trail network as different travel options.

For further research, you can also open Sukorady, Lískovice, Liban, Žeretice, Libošovice, Ohařice, Brdy and Mladějov.
