Radim at the Foot of Wooded Hills

Radim lies at the foot of wooded hills near Jičín and Valdice. The village combines this scenic setting with tangible evidence of folk architecture and local history. Those who wish to combine culture with active exploration will find a range of points of interest here: Radim itself offers historical details, while other places with traditional wooden buildings and hiking or cycling routes add their own distinctive features.

History in the Village Center

The Church of St. George stands in the center of Radim on the road to Železnice. Its history extends beyond the visible appearance of the village: in 1625, a provisional crypt was established there for Lukrécie Nekešová, Albrecht von Wallenstein’s first wife. This specific historical connection makes the church an important destination for anyone who wants to do more than simply look at buildings while traveling and also understand the history behind a place.

Another example of regional folk architecture is House No. 41 in Radim. It is considered a rare surviving monument of folk architecture and was restored after part of the building collapsed in 2008. Since 2015, House No. 41 has been home to a library. This single building therefore brings together historic fabric, a restoration history, and a present-day use.

Folk Architecture with Different Faces

Since 1997, Studeňany has been a village conservation area. The wooden houses there feature carved gables and sandstone elements and are considered typical examples of folk architecture in the Jičín region. This creates a different cultural focus for travel planning than Radim: the emphasis is not on a single building but on a village ensemble.

The wooden buildings in Tužín are also distinguished by artistically designed gables; several of them still retain their original form. The two places thus showcase different expressions of traditional architecture, without their individual characteristics needing to be conflated.

Hiking and Cycling via Tužín

Hiking and cycling routes via Tužín lead to the ruins of Kumburk Castle. This adds an active perspective to the cultural and historical themes. Depending on the desired travel day, the focus can therefore be placed on local history, traditional architecture, or a tour to a castle ruin. The documented destinations clearly differ in character: Radim represents a church, historical memory, and a restored historic monument; Studeňany and Tužín represent folk architecture, while the routes via Tužín to Kumburk Castle highlight the landscape and active-exploration aspects.
