Prachov combines an impressive sandstone landscape with marked hiking trails, nature observation opportunities and cultural highlights. The Prachovské skály form a classic sandstone area where some rock towers rise up to 40 m high. This gives visitors different ways to experience the landscape: scenic circular trails, a short educational trail for children and climbing routes of all difficulty levels. The rock towers, protected landscape and various trails combine nature experiences, physical activity and sporting challenges.

Sandstone Rocks and Protected Landscape

The scenic circular trails in the Prachovské skály are located in Zone I of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. Narrow sandstone formations alternate with viewpoints between the rock towers. The rocks feature well-maintained, marked tourist circular trails, allowing you to explore the landscape along designated routes. The climbing routes cover all difficulty levels and therefore offer a different way of exploring the rocks from the signposted trails.

Circular Trails for Different Day Plans

One specific option is the Pelíškova dětská naučná stezka. It is approximately 1 km long and takes about 90 minutes. The route is also suitable for strollers. From the car park in the municipality of Prachov, access to the Prachovské skály follows the path to the ticket office; the blue-marked stroller route starts there. For families, the trail combines a manageable route with a child-friendly theme. With its approximate duration and short distance, the outing remains limited in time, while the blue markings indicate the route. The approach via the car park and ticket office is part of getting oriented on site. This means the children's route can be planned as a separate short hike; the scenic circular trails offer a different focus between rock towers and viewpoints.

Nature, Museum and Regional Tradition

The garden of the Muzeum přírody Český ráj is designed as a botanical mini-garden. It showcases trees, shrubs and herbs of the Český ráj, as well as habitats for wild animals, enclosures and outdoor terrariums. The Muzeum přírody Český ráj also organizes the Žabí běh every year. A historical aspect of the rocks is conveyed by the Císařská chodba: it is a gorge in the Prachovské skály dedicated to Emperor Francis I; during his visit on 9 June 1813, he passed through it. The garden focuses on trees, shrubs, herbs and animals; the Císařská chodba connects the rocks with the visit of Emperor Francis I.

Getting There and Finding Your Way on Site

The Prachovské skály can be reached by car or bus. The central car park is located by the Turistická chata, directly at the entrance to the rocks. If you would like to add an event to your stay, the Maraton Českým rájem is relevant: the 2026 edition is scheduled to start on 9 August at 9:00 a.m. at the Lepařův památník and finish at the Muzeum přírody Český ráj in Prachov.
