Discover Podulsi: Brada, Culture and Historic Trails
Accommodation in Podulsi
Podulsi brings together landscape, local history and active experiences within a compact area. Brada, cultural monuments, a historic educational trail and a cycling route shape the different facets of the village. Depending on your interests, you can explore the landscape, delve deeper into historical traces or include the multifunctional sports field as an activity in its own right. This allows you to combine nature, history and sport according to your interests for a varied stay.
Brada and the Structure of the Village
Podůlší lies on the eastern side of Brada hill. The road from Jičín to Turnov divides Podůlší into Horní Podůlší and Dolní Podůlší. This division is important for finding your way around the village: When planning your stay, you can use the respective part of the village as a reference point rather than viewing Podulsi merely as a single place name.
Cultural Monuments with Local Connections
One cultural focal point is located in Dolní Podůlší. There you will find a statue of the Holy Trinity, which is considered an important cultural monument. There is also the restored Podůlší theatre curtain, which was declared a cultural monument in 1994. The curtain from 1927 depicts the municipality with Brada, a hill and a small church in the background, as well as a portrait of Svatopluk Čech, the patron of the theatre association. This object therefore combines the local landscape, the history of the association and memories of the area around the village.
Battle History and Educational Trail
The history of Podůlší is also connected with 29 June 1866. In the Battle of Podůlší, the Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 48 and units of the Austrian Poschacher Brigade faced each other in particular. These included the II Battalion and three companies of the Imperial and Royal 34th Infantry Regiment, as well as one company of the Imperial 30th Infantry Regiment.
The “Battle of Jičín” educational trail is 29 km long, comprises 22 stops with 26 information panels and runs through Podůlší. It therefore offers a clearly defined opportunity to explore the historical subject over several stops. Route No. 4016 also runs through Podůlší, adding a cycling option to the range of activities.
Landscape Features in the Surrounding Area
The mountains Přivýšina and Tábor are located in the immediate vicinity of Podůlší. Střelečská hůra is also a mountain in the surrounding area. In the wider regional area lies Maxinec (MLázovický chlum), another mountain. The churches of Valdštejn and Lázně are also located in the wider regional area; both are landscape and cultural sites. The landscape and cultural destinations therefore range from mountains in the immediate vicinity to the churches of Valdštejn and Lázně in the wider regional area. The combination of mountains and the two churches offers different focal points when you plan individual excursions specifically around your interest in nature or culture.
Sporting Variety on Site
The multifunctional sports field in Podůlší can be used for tennis, volleyball, nohejbal, handball, small-sided football, floorball, basketball and badminton. It can be reserved for periods of at least 60 and at most 180 minutes. Together with cycling route No. 4016, which runs through Podůlší, it provides a versatile basis for planning your day: You can combine sports activities, cycling and cultural and historical discoveries at your own pace.
