Pařezská Lhota lies north of the Prachov Rocks in a hilly landscape near the ruins of Pařez Castle. The village combines protected sandstone landscapes, castle remains, climbing rocks, cycle paths and archaeological traces.

Sandstone and Pařez Castle

The ruins of Pařez Castle lie on an isolated sandstone formation at the northwestern edge of the Prachov Rocks. Access led through a rock crevice. The surviving castle complex includes masonry fortification walls, a square tower, a palas and chambers carved into the rock. The rock crevice marks the entrance, while the tower, palas and fortification walls divide the surviving complex into clearly distinguishable structural elements. The castle complex is therefore closely tied to the special shape of the rock. Those who do not wish to view historic sites separately from their landscape will find here a striking connection between architecture and sandstone.

Protected Area and Climbing Rocks

The Prachov Rocks are a nature reserve within the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area; their cadastral territory also includes Pařezská Lhota. The geological profile of the rocks can be followed well in the Císařská chodba. The Císařská chodba provides a specific section within the rocks for this purpose: here, the geological profile can be followed, while the protected area forms the broader landscape framework of the protected sandstone landscape. As a result, alongside spending time in the landscape, the geological structure of the sandstone world is also central. The Pařezská Lhota climbing area lies in the forest to the right of the road from Pařezská Lhota to Střeleč. Climbing is seasonally permitted there from 1 April to 31 October, with exceptions applying to individual rocks. For climbing plans, this period is just as important as the precise choice of rock.

Cycling Routes and Seasonal Connections

From 30 April to 30 September, a tourist bicycle bus can be used on the route Jičín – Holín – Prachov Rocks – Pařezská Lhota – Mladějov – Sobotka – Podkost. The seasonal connection structures a cycling trip by time and links several places and landscape points together. In addition, the Jičín–Trosky cycle route runs through Pařezská Lhota. The Leknínová cycle route also passes through the village and leads to its water-lily ponds. At the Holín, Pařezská Lhota, penzion stop, it is possible to change between the two lines. The bicycle bus, cycle routes and transfer thus form a practical connection between nature experiences, excursion destinations and the village.

Archaeological Traces in the Cadastral Territory

The archaeological site of the fortified hilltop settlement of Prachov also includes the cadastral territory of Pařezská Lhota. Prehistoric burial sites, as well as ramparts and burial mounds, have been documented there. In addition to the castle and sandstone landscape, older traces of human settlement are therefore part of the character of the area. The forms of the fortifications and burials differ clearly from the medieval structural elements of the castle and broaden the chronological horizon of the cadastral territory.
