If you would like to combine culture and landscapes on a trip through the Czech Republic, Mladějov offers both: the Church of Saint Giles, a historic bell tower, Mladějov Chateau, distinctive sandstone formations, and several cycling and hiking routes. This makes the village an interesting choice for days when you want to alternate between cultural discovery, nature, and different routes. The connections towards Jičín and Trosky, as well as routes through Český ráj, are particularly prominent.

Church, Memorial and Musical Tradition

On the south wall of the vestibule of the Church of Saint Giles is a restored memorial to those who fell in the First World War. Access to this memorial in Mladějov is unrestricted. The church dates from the 14th century and features Baroque modifications. Services are held there regularly; concerts by soprano Karolína Žmolíková are also held in the church twice a year.

Individual details of the furnishings also make the site noteworthy for those interested in culture. The preserved bell in Mladějov’s bell tower bears depictions of Saint Wenceslas and Saint John of Nepomuk; the bell tower itself dates from 1793. The baptismal font in the Church of Saint Giles is protected as a cultural monument. Two statues from the side lattice gates of the main altar are also considered cultural monuments. The Husův sbor in Mladějov was opened on 21 August 1938.

The pseudo-Baroque Mladějov Chateau was carefully restored after a fire in 2002. It is currently used for commercial purposes. This present-day use is just as much a part of the village’s history as the traces of older architectural and religious culture.

Sandstone Landscapes and Wide Views

The Mladějovsko landscape area, administered by the municipality of Mladějov, lies on the southern or southeastern edge of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area and the Podtrosecká údolí Nature Reserve. Near the church is the Mladějovská rokle, a protected natural monument with impressive sandstone scenery. From Mladějov-Pařízek, there are views of Trosky, Kozákov, the Krkonoše Mountains and Ještěd. At Doly Pond, next to the dam, a statue stands in a niche carved into the rock; according to tradition, it is said to depict Saint John of Nepomuk.
