Libun combines impressive Baroque landmarks with a landscape featuring wet meadows and protected species. If you would like to combine culture, nature, and different kinds of excursions on your trip, you will find specific points of interest here: St. Martin’s Church and the Fara, the Libunecké rašeliniště natural monument, the “Pěšky z Rovenska přes horu Tábor” hiking route, and seasonal tourist bus route 391.

Baroque Traces Around St. Martin’s Church

St. Martin’s Church was built in the 14th century as a single-nave Gothic church and was given a Baroque makeover in 1771. Medieval origins and Baroque transformation thus meet in one place. In front of its façade, beside the boundary wall and standing on a three-step pedestal, is a Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1746. Inside, there is also a statue of the Assumption of Mary from the middle of the 16th century. This means that several periods of sacred art can be encountered in one historic church building.

Opposite St. Martin’s Church, in the centre of Libuň, stands the Fara, a Baroque building from the 18th century. The Fara contains a memorial room dedicated to P. Ant. Marek as well as a small gallery with pictures and writings by F. Kaván. Both areas complement the architectural impression with personal and artistic memories.

One of the notable individual monuments is the column of the Jesuit Burnatius. The four-metre-high Baroque Tuscan sandstone column dates from 1689 and commemorates the death of the missionary Matěj Burnatia in 1629. It also includes a chapel with relief decoration. A cultural stay thus offers a varied combination of a church, sculpture, memorial room, and gallery.

Wet Meadows and Protected Nature

The Libunecké rašeliniště natural monument extends into the cadastral area of Libuň. It comprises wet meadows along the natural course of the Javorka, where protected plant and animal species occur. The character of this area differs clearly from the Baroque sights: instead of architecture, the focus is on the watercourse, meadows, and the protected animal and plant life found there.

Hiking and Seasonal Connections

One specific way to include Libuň in a hike is the “Pěšky z Rovenska přes horu Tábor” route. It ends in Libuň, thereby connecting the end point of a hiking route with the town. Seasonal tourist bus route 391 is also relevant for regional orientation. It connects Turnov with Jičín through the most attractive part of Český ráj and is one of the most important seasonal connections to the Hruboskalsko and Prachovské skály areas. During the season, it operates as a bicycle bus with limited capacity for transporting bicycles. This provides two different options for travel planning: a hike ending in Libuň or a seasonal journey through Český ráj.
