Jinolice among Ponds, Wetlands and History

Jinolice combines a distinctive pond landscape with protected wetlands and traces of history. Around the Jinolické rybníky, you will find water, nature and opportunities for different kinds of holiday experiences. There are also marked trails, historic memorial sites and individual buildings that contribute to the character of the village. If you are looking not only for accommodation but also for a distinctive base for your trip, Jinolice offers several clearly differentiated themes.

Ponds and Protected Landscape

Rybník Vražda pond is designated as a protected natural monument. The protected area preserves wet meadows with rare plants and animals and gives the landscape a special natural character. Another notable area is the protected Oborská luka wetland, also known as Oborská louka, above Oborský pond, the largest of the three Jinolické rybníky.

The Jinolické rybníky offer pleasant swimming opportunities as well as opportunities for camping and leisure activities. Camping is also possible at the ponds. Jinolice therefore focuses not only on protected habitats but also on water-related holiday experiences. When planning your trip, you can therefore weigh up nature observation, time by the water and other excursions.

Hiking Trails and Historic Destinations

Jinolice railway station is on the Turnov–Jičín line. From there, a green-marked hiking trail leads via the Jinolické rybníky to the Prachovské skály. It is approximately 3.5 km long; the stated approximate distance helps you factor this route into your day planning without equating its length with a specific walking time. You can reach the Brada castle site via the blue-marked hiking trail in the direction of Jičín–Prachovské skály.

Jinolice also has the educational trail “Battle of Jičín, 29 June 1866”. It adds a historical focus to the landscape experience. The early Gothic Brada Castle once stood on the wooded ridge above the Jinolické rybníky—another indication of how closely the natural environment and local history are connected here.

Historic Details in the Villagescape

A masonry bell tower stands beneath a linden tree on the village green near the municipal office. In Jinolice, on road I/35 between Jičín and Turnov, there is also a cast-iron monument to those who fell in the Battle of Jičín on 29 June 1866. A helmet is mounted above its decorated cornice.

The former mill at house no. 37 is also one of the local historic wooden buildings and part of Jinolice’s local cultural heritage. It dates from the early 19th century. Two war graves commemorate further victims of the battle: the grave in the village centre names 12 Austrian soldiers, 24 Prussian soldiers and one officer who fell in the Battle of Jičín on 29 June 1866. The war grave at Rybník Vražda pond in the Malá Jinolice district commemorates 92 soldiers who fell near Malá and Velká Jinolice on the same day.
