Discover Jicineves
Accommodation in Jicineves
Jičíněves combines the history of a striking Baroque château with parkland, water and protected habitats. If you would like to combine cultural themes and nature observation on your trip, the area offers several clearly distinct points of interest. Important for your planning: Jičíněves Château is not open to the public and is therefore not a destination for an interior visit. This creates an excursion focus that brings together architectural forms, historical memory and nature observation without planning a visit to the château interior.
Château and chapel as a cultural focus
Jičíněves Château was built for Count František Josef Schlik between 1715 and 1717 according to plans by Jean Baptiste Mathey. The building is a three-storey Baroque structure with a mansard roof and a small turret. Jičíněves is therefore home to a precisely dated example of Baroque architecture that lies at the heart of the area's history, even though the interiors are not open to the public.
The château complex includes the château chapel “Zámecká kaple sv. Antonína Padovského a Nalezení sv. Kříže”. It was added to the north side of Jičíněves Château in 1730 and dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and the Holy Cross. The chapel is a single-nave building with a rectangular floor plan and presbytery. It was opened to the public in 1776. Another detail of cultural and historical interest is the statue “socha sv. Václava”: The light sandstone figure stands on a solid pedestal, approximately 170 metres from the main Jičín–Kopidlno road, on the left side of the road in the direction of Keteň.
Park, water and protected nature
Jičíněves Château is situated in an extensive English landscape park with numerous rare and notable trees. The park thus forms its own natural and landscape aspect alongside the architecture. The lesser horseshoe bat is also protected in the Natura 2000 site “Jičíněves - zámek”. For your travel planning, this offers an interesting combination of a historic setting and a specific nature conservation topic.
A local watercourse running through Jičíněves feeds the Zámecký rybník pond on the eastern edge of the village. Zámecký rybník lies south of Jičíněves Château. The protected natural monument Chyjická stráň is located in the wider surrounding area, between Chyjice and Dolany. Approximately 96 percent of its area consists of oak-hornbeam forests and around 3 percent of ash-alder floodplain forests. Chyjická stráň provides a habitat for protected bird and plant species, including the golden lily and the white forest hyacinth.
The historic connection with the surrounding area has also been preserved in the record: Jičíněves Château was connected to Kopidlno by a poplar avenue. This detail adds a former landscape relationship to the consideration of the area without implying the present-day accessibility or use of the connection.
