Chyjice combines the course of the Mrlina with Baroque sacred art, listed heritage details and a natural monument on a wooded slope. Those looking for a destination with cultural discoveries and connections to the landscape will find several different points of interest here for their trip.

The Mrlina Valley and Chyjická stráň

Chyjice lies in the valley of the Mrlina, formerly known as the Leština. Its banks border the settlement for a length of up to 2.5 kilometres. This geographical setting gives the area a clear landscape framework without requiring you to limit your trip to a single experience. The Chyjická stráň natural monument lies between Chyjice and Dolany above the Mrlina, on a wooded south-west-facing slope.

The local flora and fauna are also part of this connection with nature: Over the past 20 years, 17 protected bird species and 20 protected plant species have been recorded at Chyjická stráň. If you would like to alternate nature observation with cultural destinations during your days, Chyjice therefore offers two clearly distinct areas of interest. You can also take the information about Chyjická stráň into account when deciding how much space the landscape should have in your travel plans.

Baroque church and significant minor monuments

The church of “sv. Šimona a Judy” is part of Chyjice’s cultural identity. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style by F. Spannbrucker between 1698 and 1700 and is part of a protected heritage ensemble. The ensemble also includes a bell tower and an enclosing wall with a gate. The church contains an organ made in 1892 in the workshop of organ builder Josef Kobrle from Lomnice. The church thus combines the impact of the Baroque reconstruction with a specific example of 19th-century organ building.

Next to the church stands the Boží muka wayside shrine, dating from 1779. It consists of a column with a relief of the Virgin Mary and a small chapel with a relief of the crucified Jesus. It was restored between 1994 and 1996 and declared a cultural monument in November 2002. The different dates make it possible to view the structure not only as an individual building, but also in the context of its restoration and heritage history.

Another distinctive feature is the light sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, a work of High Baroque sculpture. Its front bears a relief of Saint Charles Borromeo. The statue was declared a cultural monument on 26 November 2002; its restoration was completed in July 2025. For travellers interested in culture, these details provide concrete points around which to plan a stay in Chyjice.

Cycling and choosing accommodation

The frequently used cycle route No. 4368 runs along the edge of Chyjice. It connects sights of a local character, including hillforts and châteaux. If your travel group has different interests, you can therefore weigh up local monuments, nature and a cycling tour focused on cultural and historical destinations. When looking for a hotel in Chyjice, your preferred daily rhythm should be the deciding factor: Would you mainly like to explore the church and monuments, include the Mrlina landscape, or give cycling a larger role? Chyjice allows these priorities to coexist within a single travel plan.
