Červená Třemešná offers several clearly distinct ways to explore culture, nature and active pursuits. Historical traces, a themed nature trail, a marked cycle route and a protected body of water represent different ways of getting to know the area. When planning your trip, the contrast between these options is particularly interesting: you can explore the history of individual monuments, follow the course of the nature trail, include a longer cycle route or discover the natural value of a protected body of water.

Historical traces in Červená Třemešná

A particularly important historical landmark is the late Gothic single-nave Church of St James and St Andrew. It was first mentioned in 1358. The date gives the church a clear historical connection without extending its significance beyond the documented facts. In the centre of Červená Třemešná there is also a sandstone statue of Saint Wenceslas. It is a monument of local importance and complements the church with another visible testimony to the local cultural history.

Nature trail and cycle route with different itineraries

In front of the church there is an information board about the “In the Footsteps of Karel Jaromír Erben” nature trail. The 14 km nature trail leads from Miletín via Červená Třemešná, Vrbiny, Byšičky, the Rybník Hluboký and Nadýmák ponds, Vlkanov and Miletínek back to Miletín. The nature trail connects several places and bodies of water.

The marked Cycle Route No. 4135 differs from it. It follows an approximately 35 km route from Mostek via Pecka Castle, Vřesník, Lázně Bělohrad and Byšičky through Červená Třemešná and U Jeníkova to Boháňka. For your choice, not only the different lengths are relevant, but also the form of the route: the nature trail has its own literary and historical theme and returns to Miletín, while the approximately 35 km cycle route places Červená Třemešná within a longer route between Mostek and Boháňka. When preparing for a stay, you can therefore consider these two options separately and weigh the desired mix of themed exploration and cycling accordingly.

Protected body of water and amphibians

An independent natural feature is Červená Třemešná – rybník. The body of water is a 9.41 ha natural monument. As a protected body of water, it is of supra-regional importance for amphibians, particularly for populations of the great crested newt (Triturus cristatus) and the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina). For visitors who would like to include protected nature in their travel plans alongside culture and routes, this aspect is a clearly distinct feature of the area.

Transport and choosing where to stay

Transport connections are an important practical distinction when choosing where to stay. Buses operated by the Integrated Regional Transport systems of the Hradec Králové and Pardubice Regions (IREDO) connect the Červená Třemešná area with Miletín, Hořice and Dvůr Králové nad Labem on weekdays. There is no railway service in the Červená Třemešná area. The nearest railway station is outside the area in Hořice, approximately 5 km south of the area, on Route No. 041 from Turnov via Jičín and Ostroměř to Hradec Králové. When looking for accommodation, you can therefore distinguish between weekday bus connections and travelling by train to a station outside the area.
