Syrovátka combines a specific connection to cycling with a tangible industrial history. Route 4200 runs through the village, while the sugar factory, branch railway and chimney tell the story of its industrial past. This gives you a choice between cycling and exploring the village’s history when planning your trip.

Cycling: two routes with named connections

Cycling route 4200 runs from Pardubice to Hrádek u Nechanic and passes through Syrovátka. At the village’s railway station, it connects with cycling route 4198, which links Plačice and Dobřenice. This makes the routes and their endpoints easy to distinguish: route 4200 passes through Syrovátka, while route 4198 connects at the railway station.

The railway station is their shared reference point, but the routes can still be distinguished by their numbers and endpoints. When planning a bike ride, you can use these named connections as a guide rather than treating both routes as a single route.

Sugar factory and chimney

From 1880, a branch railway more than three kilometres long ran from Dobřenice railway station to Weinrich’s sugar factory in Syrovátka. The factory was later described as an agricultural sugar factory. This historic connection between the railway station and the factory gives the village’s industrial history a tangible shape.

The historic buildings of the local sugar factory date from the 19th and 20th centuries. The chimney is another distinctive feature: it is 61 metres high and has a circular shaft. It is believed to date from around 1851; it was later modified and rebuilt. Both its probable date and its later alteration are part of its history.

The “Dobřenická vyhlídková” hiking route offers another perspective, with views of Syrovátka and the chimney of the former sugar factory. Alongside the cycling routes, this hiking route offers a vantage point from which to see the village and its industrial landmark.

Village square, greenery and tradition

The bell tower on the village square has been reconstructed. A stone cross in Syrovátka dates from 1884 and was restored in 1908. The two structures represent different historical milestones: the cross has dated construction and restoration years, while the bell tower’s reconstruction is a matter of record.

Mature trees and other substantial green spaces in the centre contribute to the village’s aesthetic character. A green belt was planned behind “Bláťáky” as a quiet area for walks. Alongside the buildings, greenery in the village centre and the planned walking area offer another way to experience Syrovátka’s landscape.

Masopust is another documented local tradition: it was celebrated in Syrovátka in 2024, 2025 and 2026. If you would like to plan your trip around this festival, check the dates for your chosen travel year.

Cycling or local history: shape your stay

When choosing a stay in Syrovátka, you can weigh these different interests. The two cycling routes make the village a good choice for a stay centred on cycling; the sugar factory, chimney, stone cross and bell tower offer tangible ways to explore local history.
