Prague Zoo with Kids: Routes, Tickets, and Strollers

Prague Zoo makes a full-day family outing if you want to visit several animal areas. However, steep slopes, a weather-dependent route between the upper and lower levels, and seasonal opening hours affect how much you can fit into one visit. Plan your bus ride, breaks, and stroller use together.

Prague Zoo quick facts

  • The zoo is in Prague’s Troja district at U TrojskĂ©ho zámku 120/3.
  • Bus 112 runs from Nádraží Holešovice metro station on Line C to the zoo.
  • Strollers are allowed. Strollers available to borrow at the main entrance are free, but supplies are limited and they are suitable for children weighing up to 15 kg.

  • As of October 11, 2026: The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in October; according to the visitor notice, the North Entrance is completely closed.
  • At the same price date, a day ticket costs CZK 330 for adults at the ticket office or CZK 300 online; for children aged 3 to 15, it costs CZK 250 or CZK 200, respectively.

Choose a route and visit length that work for you

Your visit will be more relaxed if you choose two or three highlights before entering, rather than trying to see every exhibit. Families with younger children can combine a quieter area with the Children’s Zoo, which has a farm area, play activities, and a picnic spot. Animals may be fed only in the Children’s Zoo, and only with food purchased there. The article on family trips in Czechia can help you choose other suitable destinations if you’re spending several days in the region.

The rocky slopes offer a specific highlight: Himalayan tahrs and East Caucasian tur roam the steep hillsides; some can be seen from below, and others from the Zakázanka trail above the rocks. Allowing around three to five hours for two or three selected areas, plus longer meal and rest breaks, is a practical plan. The zoo is hilly, and trails, slopes, and breaks all make a difference, especially when children are walking on their own. If you want to explore different parts of the grounds and spend longer at the Children’s Zoo, make the outing your main activity for the day. For a combination with the Old Town, the Prague travel guide can help you schedule other sights for a separate day.

Strollers, slopes, and connections between areas

Strollers are allowed at the zoo, but that doesn’t mean every route is step-free or accessible in all weather. Steep rocky areas divide parts of the grounds, and the route between the lower and upper areas above the vineyard may close because of the weather. Ask at the entrance which connection is currently suitable, and plan an alternative loop before attempting a slope with a stroller.

You can borrow a stroller or child carrier free of charge at the main entrance. You’ll need to provide an ID number, and the number of items available is limited. Strollers are suitable for children weighing up to 15 kg; child carriers can hold up to 40 kg, and both must be returned by closing time at the latest. The zoo chairlift runs from March to December, weather permitting. A single ride costs CZK 40, and the ticket machines accept coins. Strollers and wheelchairs are not confirmed as being allowed on the chairlift. So don’t rely on it as your only way to get between levels.

Getting there and where to stay

For public transport, bus 112 from Nádraží Holešovice, accessible via Metro Line C, is the direct way to get to the zoo. A passenger ferry runs daily between Podbaba and Podhoří; from the Podhoří landing, it’s about a 1.5-kilometer walk to the zoo. For families with strollers, the bus may be the easier option. The page on public transport and transfers in Prague can help you coordinate your zoo visit with the rest of your trip around the city.

For drivers, the Blanka-Troja parking lot on Povltavská Street is intended for weekends from March to October and every day during the summer holidays; the current daily rate is CZK 300. A space is not guaranteed. If you’re staying in Prague for several days, compare accommodation options in Prague with the daily journey to the zoo and your other outings.

Admission and opening hours

The ticket prices and opening hours listed here are current as of October 11, 2026. Children under three enter free. A day ticket is valid for one entry only; if you leave the grounds, you can’t re-enter with the same ticket. So don’t buy tickets if you’re planning to take a break outside the zoo. The zoo publishes admission prices and online tickets on its official price page.

In October, the zoo grounds are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entrances close earlier: according to the current schedule, the Main Entrance and Sklenářka Entrance are open until 4:30 p.m.; the South Entrance closes at 3 p.m. on weekdays and at 4:30 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. The North Entrance is currently completely closed. Check seasonal hours and access notices again before a future visit, and plan your return route so you reach the appropriate exit before it closes.

FAQ / Frequently asked questions about Prague Zoo

Can I reach every part of the zoo with a stroller?

Strollers are allowed, but the hilly grounds and the weather-dependent route between levels may limit your options. The zoo does not confirm that strollers can be taken on the chairlift. Choose a route that works without using this connection.

Does it make sense to visit the entire zoo in one day?

That depends on your family’s pace and how often you take breaks. For a relaxed visit, it’s usually better to choose a few areas and allow time for the walks between them than to force in a complete circuit along with additional city-center sights on the same day.

Can I use my day ticket again after leaving the zoo?

No. The day ticket is valid for one entry. Plan meals and breaks inside the zoo, or save any time outside the grounds for after your visit.
