Výčapy combines a protected natural area with an unusually rich local history. This makes the town interesting for travellers who do not want to base their stay around just one attraction, but instead wish to combine nature observation, historical traces and local culture. Highlights include the Hošťanka Nature Reserve, several religious buildings, the Sokolovna and evidence dating from the late Hallstatt period to the 20th century.

Hošťanka Nature Reserve

The strongest natural feature of Výčapy is the Hošťanka Nature Reserve. It was first designated on 24 April 1996. The area includes a forest stand of different ages, dominated by the autochthonous silver fir. The term “autochthonous” refers to a tree species that is originally native to the area. Together with the forest’s varied age structure, this creates a specific picture of the protected landscape: Hošťanka is not simply a forest, but a stand with different stages of development and a remarkable tree species as its defining element.

Those wishing to combine nature and culture in Výčapy will find a clear thematic starting point here. The local history can then be traced through buildings, archaeological finds and traditional stories. The documented evidence reaches far back: the first written mention of Výčapy dates from 1104.

Chapels, Finds and Traditional History

One of the notable buildings is the Kaplička na Láně, considered the oldest building in Výčapy. Another important stop is the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was built in the Neo-Baroque style in 1885 and consecrated on 26 October 1890. It was built by master bricklayer Ignác Suchánek and master carpenter František Trojan from Lesonice; construction costs amounted to 1,100 gulden.

Archaeological investigations in the centre of Výčapy uncovered pottery from the late Hallstatt period in the 5th century BC, as well as medieval pottery from the 12th to the 15th century. Two clearly separate periods thus meet in one place. The historical picture is complemented by a statue of Saint Florian from 1754 and several crosses in the town. Some houses in Výčapy are also said to have underground passageways leading as far as the municipality of Šebkovice. This tradition explicitly remains an assumption and should be understood as part of the local storytelling tradition.

Sokolovna and Leisure in the Town

The Sokolovna in Výčapy is used for sporting and cultural activities. It was ceremonially opened on 10 September 1922; amateur theatre performances were held there from 1922 onwards. The building therefore represents both communal physical activity and a local theatrical tradition. For a quieter or more active way to spend the day, there is also a sports field for recreational use. In this way, the Sokolovna complements the historic chapels and archaeological themes with a more community-oriented aspect of the town.
