Vícenice U Náměště Nad Oslavou
Accommodation in Vícenice U Náměště Nad Oslavou
Vícenice u Náměště nad Oslavou combines local history, aviation and a remarkable landscape of ponds. This gives you a destination whose character is shaped by more than just one attraction: in the historic centre, the Church of Saint Mark points to the medieval roots of the village, while the Sedlec Garrison Museum offers a distinctly different focus. This picture is complemented by the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and the natural landscape on the northwestern edge of the cadastral area.
Church of Saint Mark and the medieval village centre
The Church of Saint Mark was mentioned as a parish church in 1376. The village was also first mentioned in writing that same year. The church site is registered as an archaeological area in the medieval village centre. The area covers a long historical period from the Middle Ages to the modern era. For your visit, this means that the focus is not merely on a single building, but on a place where the development of the village can be viewed across several historical periods.
Sedlec Garrison Museum: three perspectives on aviation history
The Sedlec Garrison Museum is aimed at visitors interested in military and aviation history. It comprises three main exhibitions. The permanent exhibition is dedicated to Náměšť nad Oslavou Air Base. The “311” exhibition deals with the RAF bomber squadron. Another exhibition presents the salon of General Emil Boček, a pilot with the 310th Fighter Squadron. The three sections therefore place different emphasis on the history of the site, the history of the unit and a personal military biography.
The museum also includes an outdoor area with historic jet aircraft and helicopters. These aircraft are connected with the history of the air base. The visit does not follow an arbitrary regular museum schedule: it is possible by prior arrangement and subject to the unit’s availability as part of organised excursions, during open days or for school history visits. If you choose this focus, you should therefore regard the visit as a programme item to be arranged separately.
Chapel of Lourdes and the landscape around the pond area
At the eastern edge of Vícenice u Náměště nad Oslavou stands the restored brick Chapel of Panny Marie Lourdské, the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was renovated in 2016–2017 and consecrated on 23 April 2017. The new chapel was built at a crossroads near a pond. Its new location is approximately 117 metres southwest of the original site. This precise relocation is one of the notable details of the building’s more recent history.
The landscape also extends the scope of the visit beyond the village centre. The cadastral area of Vícenice u Náměště nad Oslavou borders the significant natural landscape of the Náměšťsko-Studenecká pond system to the northwest. Historical local connections, military aviation history and a pond-dominated environment thus stand alongside one another as clearly distinguishable themes.
