Střítež combines impressive sacred architecture with small historical discoveries and a variety of opportunities involving water, trails and the landscape. The village lies about two kilometres south of Třebíč in the direction of Znojmo. Those looking for accommodation in the area will find a base here for a stay where village history and nature experiences stand closely side by side.

Romanesque Church and Historical Testimonies

One of the most important sights is St. Mark’s Church. It is a Romanesque church from the early 13th century and is among the oldest surviving monuments of medieval sacred architecture. The single-nave, east-facing structure also has an altar facing east. The church complex includes a cemetery surrounded by a rubble-stone wall, a wrought-iron double-leaf entrance gate and a mortuary chapel built into the north-western corner of the perimeter wall. The cemetery also contains a Baroque chapel with a mortuary chapel, which is listed as a cultural monument. Lukáš Georg Cyprianus, a manorial official from Sádek, had it built in 1648. A separate Romanesque chapel stands between houses No. 78 and 43. These diverse buildings make Střítež particularly interesting for visitors who want to discover not just a single building, but the accumulated history of a village. The village square also tells of the past. A bell tower stands there as an example of folk architecture from the mid-19th century. In front of the tower, a monument commemorates Josef Zvěřina, a theologian from Střítež, a signatory of Charter 77 and a campaigner for religious freedom. In front of the municipal office stands the historic “Libuše” well, associated with the legend that Princess Libuše watered her horse there. At the entrance to Střítež, a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1737 stands among lime trees. Halfway from Střítež to Třebíč, a stone cross stands on the right side of the road. The Municipality of Střítež had it erected in 1876; the flat memorial stone in front of it is a cultural monument.

Trails, Water and Excursions

The cycling trails around Střítež lead through forests, past ponds and across the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. There are also marked hiking trails in the village. Several specific destinations are available for different day-trip ideas: swimming is possible in Hodinovec Pond, while fishing is possible in Mareček Pond. Route 1 offers swimming opportunities in the Markovka Reservoir and in Lesní rybník at the foot of the wooded Klučovská hora massif. For an outing with children, the Dvůr Střítež children’s leisure park offers an outdoor playground, live animals and a covered amusement park with a maze, slides, climbing walls for children and trampolines. Another leisure option is the Country Golf Club Střítež, with an 18-hole adventure golf course featuring Wild West and US themes. Country music evenings are also held at the club. The covered Třebíč-Střítež badminton hall has four courts.
