Pozďatín – Ponds, Protected Area and Historic Chapels
Accommodation in Pozďatín
Pozďatín brings together a landscape shaped by ponds, remarkable wetlands, and small historic buildings. The village is suitable for travelers who want to combine nature observation with cultural discoveries. Whether you are planning a walk, a cycling trip, or a stay with a particular interest in regional history, Pozďatín offers different ways to explore the area.
Landscape Between Ponds and Wetlands
Pozďatín is located on a granite island. Ponds are closely connected with the landscape around the village and thus shape a significant part of its character. This connection is particularly evident in the Maršovec a Čepička protected area, which extends across the cadastral territories of Pozďatín and Pyšel. The area comprises two pond habitats as well as adjacent wetlands and waterlogged alder forests.
Maršovec a Čepička is also remarkable from a species protection perspective: The protected area is considered a highly important locality for the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) and has an exceptionally large population of this species. Those who consider landscape features and nature observation when choosing a destination will therefore find a clearly identifiable focus here, without the village being limited to a single natural attraction.
Historic Traces in the Village
The pond landscape also has a historical dimension. Vrbinec Pond is already mentioned in historical sources from 1504. On the edge of Pozďatín, next to the former school building, stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. Dating from the 18th century, it complements the village’s nature-oriented character with a small, clearly situated historic monument.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also located in the center of Pozďatín. It has a rectangular design and a distinctive small tower with an onion dome, as well as a façade decorated with stucco. The chapel contains a bell made in 1771 by Georg Jan Schleichter. The two chapels create different points of emphasis: While the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the edge of the village next to the former school, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary is defined by its central location and architectural details.
Hiking and Cycling Without a Single Excursion Pattern
The “Pozďatínské rybníky” excursion route is documented as a way to hike to Pozďatín. It leads from Studenec railway station to Pozďatín along a green-marked trail. This makes it possible to include the village in a point-to-point hike, with the route between the railway station and the destination itself becoming part of the excursion.
A different perspective is offered by the 38.4 km cycling tour “Za krajinou rybníků,” described as easy. It passes ponds in the forests south of Pozďatín. This difference is relevant when planning accommodation: The hiking route leads from Studenec to Pozďatín, while the cycling tour passes ponds in the forests south of Pozďatín.
Pozďatín Railway Station
Pozďatín railway station is located on railway line 257 between Křižanov and Studenec and is integrated into the Vysočina Region’s integrated transport system.
