If you are looking for a Czech town with tangible history, local festivals and diverse opportunities for culture, exercise and regional cuisine, Okříšky offers several clear points of interest. The center is defined by the Renaissance château complex Zámek Okříšky with its farmyard, while the Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary, designated scenic sites and the sports complex reveal further facets of the town.

Château history and church

Zámek Okříšky is a Renaissance château complex with a farmyard in the center of Okříšky. The complex was built on the foundations of a medieval fortress and is one of the town’s immovable cultural monuments. The history of the site therefore predates the Renaissance period and complements the visible château architecture with an older historical layer. The history of the Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary is directly connected with the château: the estate owners to whom the church belonged lived in the neighboring Zámek Okříšky. The religious building and the seat of the estate are thus linked in a clearly understandable historical relationship.

The Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary is a defining landmark of Okříšky. Its present form was probably built in 1673. A special date is the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary on September 12, when a pilgrimage takes place at the church. This gives your stay a specific cultural occasion connected with the town’s older history, without reducing the church to merely an isolated building.

Market, children’s program and sports

The events calendar is also part of the character of Okříšky. The Jarní jarmark took place at Zámek Okříšky on April 6, 2025; the second edition of the revived market was announced there for April 12, 2026. The Jarní jarmark includes stalls selling handicrafts and industrial products, various treats, rides for children and children’s workshops. Those traveling with children will therefore find a program combining hands-on discoveries, culinary breaks and activities for younger visitors.

For a more active day, the Okříšky sports complex offers facilities for ball hockey and ice hockey, a tartan-surfaced double athletics track, a multipurpose sports field and a practice tennis wall. The facilities therefore cover various sports and forms of exercise rather than being limited to a single venue.
