Nové Syrovice: Castle, Forest Churches and Nature
Accommodation in Nové Syrovice
Nové Syrovice combines cultural monuments, an unusual forest church ensemble and selected nature experiences. This makes it a destination where a cultural focus can be combined with walks, a marked cycling route and a body of water for swimming. The different ways in which history and landscape become visible here are particularly characteristic.
Castle, Church and Divided Forest Church
The castle and park complex is located in the centre of Nové Syrovice and is one of the protected cultural monuments. Nové Syrovice Castle developed from an originally Renaissance fortress. It was later remodelled in the Baroque and Neoclassical styles. Anyone interested in architectural history can therefore trace several successive periods of design in this building.
Another distinctive sight is the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was built in 1906–1908 in the Neo-Romanesque style, with a prismatic tower. In particular contrast to it is the divided forest church with its three independent parts. Lusthaus is one of these three parts. In the three-part forest church ensemble, Sibyla represents the sacristy, while Špice forms the bell tower. This division is precisely what makes the ensemble a place where not only a single building is interesting, but also the relationship between its various components.
Paths, Water and Protected Landscape
Nové Syrovice also offers concrete options for active days. A marked cycling route runs through the built-up area of Nové Syrovice. In addition, the Graselova Trail leads to the Habrová seč protected area. The Graselova Trail in Nové Syrovice begins at the Novosyrovický rybník pond and is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and pushchairs. This also makes it interesting for families planning a route using different modes of transport.
The Graselova Trail is clearly marked: it bears a yellow disc outlined by a white letter “G”. In the Habrová seč protected area, the herb layer has a species-rich composition. It includes, among other plants, the spring snowflake and the Turk’s cap lily. The area also includes beech forests of the Asperulo-Fagetum association, as well as oak-hornbeam forests of the Galio-Carpinetum association. These technical terms describe different forest communities and provide a more precise ecological classification of the nature experience.
U Lusthausu is a fragment of mixed ash-alder floodplain forests with a population of the endangered spring snowflake. Anyone who wants to discover the nature around Nové Syrovice not merely as a backdrop, but with a focus on its plant life, will therefore find another distinct point of interest here. South of Nové Syrovice, there is also Koupaliště u Boroví, a body of water used for swimming.
