Lipník shows, within a small area, how closely village culture, an agriculturally shaped landscape and paths through forests and pond landscapes are connected. The Church of St. John the Baptist is the defining feature of the village green. At the same time, numerous ponds and the wooded areas along the edges of the cadastral territory open up views of a landscape that cannot be understood through a single building alone. If you would like to combine cultural history, local traditions and a specific cycling tour in one destination, Lipník offers several different points of interest.

Church and Village Green

The Church of St. John the Baptist is the defining building on Lipník’s village green and has an enclosing wall. Its architectural history makes it a particularly vivid testament to the development of the village: it was originally built in the Romanesque style and later extended with a Gothic section. Those interested in historic ecclesiastical buildings will therefore find not just one architectural style here, but the visible connection of two periods in a single building.

Ponds, Forests and a Former Mill

The area around Lipník is characterized by numerous ponds, which are considered important landscape features. Along the southern, southeastern and southwestern edges of the cadastral territory, wooded areas adjoin extensive forest complexes. This precise distribution makes Lipník’s landscape character particularly clear: the open, agriculturally used areas are complemented by forests on several sides.

About 1 km beyond Lipník, below Kopyto Pond, the ruins of the former Kopyto Mill are visible. The mill had already been abandoned in the 19th century. The site therefore does not represent a mill that is still in operation today, but rather a historical trace in the landscape that can be connected with the history of the surrounding area.

Traditions Throughout the Year

Several events give Lipník its own cultural rhythm. The Masopust procession is a Lipník tradition that has continued without any known interruption and today usually takes place on Saturdays during the carnival season. The Lipka Linden Festival begins with competitions for children and then continues with a program for adults. At the pilgrimage festival in Lipník, the program usually begins on the Saturday before Pilgrimage Sunday with the raising of a maypole. These festivals differ in their occasion and format, and therefore show Lipník from several different perspectives.

The “Into the Forests Behind Lipník” Cycling Tour

For a more active excursion, cycling route No. 3, “Into the Forests Behind Lipník”, passes through Lipník and is 35 to 40 km long. In Lipník, it turns onto a long forest road. A notable point along the route is Kapalice Forest Pond: it lies approximately in the middle of the forest area covered by cycling route No. 3 and has a tourist rest area. For orientation along the remainder of the route, it is also noted that the route returns to Lipník along the main road in the direction of Odunec and Zárubice.

If you would like to compare other destinations at the same level alongside Lipník, you can find Martínkov, Rohy, Příštpo, Kožichovice, Pucov, Kramolín, Předín and Lomy here.
