Discover Lesní Jakubov
Accommodation in Lesní Jakubov
Lesní Jakubov combines a clearly recognizable village history with a forest-rich landscape along the Chvojnice and two marked cycling routes. This creates a destination where historical discoveries, routes through the surrounding area, and nature-related activities can be combined into different day plans. The most characteristic features are its location above a meander of the Chvojnice, its historic village layout, and the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
Cycling through the surrounding area
Marked cycling route 5182 runs through Lesní Jakubov between Rapotice, Horní Lhotice, and Kralice. A second option is marked cycling route 5184, which leads from Lesní Jakubov toward the Chvojnice Reservoir, Hluboké, and Krokočín. The two routes head in different directions, providing concrete reference points for planning your trip without requiring you to get to know the village exclusively through its sights.
A place with medieval traces
The earliest written mention of Lesní Jakubov dates from 1356. The village developed east of an original fortress on elevated ground above a meander of the Chvojnice, on its right bank. A substantial part of the original village layout has probably been preserved. Its historic character is most evident in the original farmsteads along the main thoroughfare in the stream floodplain.
In the nearby area lies the almost vanished Horní Hrádek fortress, one of two fortresses in the village of Horní Lhotice. It is located on the eastern edge of the Horní Lhotice cadastral area, on a plateau above the right bank of the Chvojnice, near the ford on the road to the nearby municipality of Lesní Jakubov. The fortress probably belonged to Lesní Jakubov. This historical connection adds another trace of the region’s settlement and lordship history to a visit to the village.
Chapel, monuments, and memorial sites
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a landmark of Lesní Jakubov. It is associated with a monument and a memorial site. A brick bell tower formerly stood on the site of the present chapel; it probably dated from around the 18th century. The date is therefore deliberately approximate and refers to the former structure, not to the present chapel.
Other memorial sites are located in the village and along its roads. The monument to the victims of the First World War stands in Lesní Jakubov in front of the church. The monument to František Soukop is located on the road to Horní Lhotice, about 1 km from the village center. A walk through Lesní Jakubov thus offers several historical points of interest with different characteristics.
Forest and the Chvojnice as the landscape setting
The cadastral area of Lesní Jakubov has a high proportion of forest; the forest areas form a practically continuous ring around the village. The western part of the cadastral area belongs to EVSK No. 18, “Horní Chvojnice.” The regional biocorridor R05 also runs along the western boundary, partly extending into the peripheral areas of the cadastral area and following the course of the Chvojnice. Together with the cycling routes, this creates a landscape in which forest, stream, and historic village structures stand closely alongside one another.
As of December 15, 2024, selected services of regional bus route 430 were expected to serve Lesní Jakubov; this was a plan at that time, not a statement about the current timetable.
