Historic Buildings and Memories of Vítězslav Nezval

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul next to Dalešice Castle is a Romanesque-Gothic church dating from the 12th century. The Baroque castle in Dalešice is a one-storey building with an interesting entrance gate. Another historic landmark is the Chapel of the Holy Cross at the Dalešice cemetery. It dates from 1708 and was built in the Empire style. The Romanesque-Gothic church thus combines two medieval stylistic influences, while the chapel, with its Empire style, points to a significantly later period of construction. The church, castle and chapel therefore represent different architectural eras in the village.

The history of literature is also present in the village landscape. A bronze bust of the poet Vítězslav Nezval stands in front of the primary school in Dalešice. Nezval stayed with his parents in Dalešice for several years during the holidays and in his free time during his studies. His father was the headmaster there for ten years. The bust in front of the primary school connects the visible memorial site with Nezval’s personal history in Dalešice. His several-year stay with his parents and his father’s ten-year tenure as headmaster provide this connection with a biographical background. The bust and Nezval’s stay complement the buildings with another, personally shaped cultural connection.

Brewery Tour, Steam Power and Cellar Tasting

The Dalešice Brewery offers a multimedia tour of the historic part of the brewery. The tour presents the history of the Dalešice Brewery and the production of beer using steam power. It thus combines the historic part of the complex with the production process and the history of the brewery. At the Dalešice Brewery Museum, beer is tasted directly in the cellar. This cellar tasting adds a specific location within the museum to the tour. A visit to Dalešice can therefore be shaped not only by architecture and local history, but also by the regional brewing tradition.

Tradition and Active Excursions

The traditional Masopust costume procession in Dalešice has survived into the present day, with a few brief interruptions. The costume procession is organised by the local volunteer firefighters’ association. This living tradition complements the permanently visible buildings with a custom connected to the village’s annual cycle.

For cyclists, a 51 km cycling route around the Dalešice Reservoir passes through Dalešice. After 42 km, the route reaches the signpost at the dam of the Dalešice Reservoir. The 51 km loop thus connects the section through Dalešice with the point at the dam. Bicycles can be taken on the Horáčko excursion boat for an additional fee. Taking a bicycle on board is therefore an option in its own right alongside cycling the route itself. When planning your day, you can therefore choose between a cycling-only trip and an option that includes taking your bicycle on the boat.

When looking for accommodation in Dalešice, you can take the focus of your trip into account: historic buildings and literature, the multimedia brewery tour with cellar tasting, Masopust or the cycling route around the reservoir. This keeps your choice of accommodation oriented towards the experiences you actually want to discover in the surrounding area.
