Discover Bohušice: Pond, Chapel and Castle History
Accommodation in Bohušice
Bohušice combines a waterside landscape with an unusually multifaceted local history. The village lies on the left bank of the Rokytka; to the southwest is Bohušický Pond, a fish-breeding pond covering approximately 15 hectares. There is also a chapel in a wooded setting, traces of a castle and signposted routes for cycling and hiking. Those planning a trip to Bohušice can therefore choose between nature observation, regional history and active days.
Waterside Landscape and Activities
Bohušický Pond shapes an important part of the village landscape. Anglers can fish there on a catch-and-release basis. At present, fishing is possible at weekends by prior arrangement with the owner. This regulation should be taken into account when planning the day if fishing is to be a fixed part of the stay.
The surrounding area also offers specific opportunities for cyclists and hikers. During a cycling tour, cycle route 5110 was used on the Jihlava–Raabs route to Lažínek. The Březinova cesta is designated as a hiking route with RWN signage and red KČT main marking. This allows you to focus your trip more strongly on cycling or on signposted hiking trails, depending on your interests, without equating the two forms of activity.
Chapel and Memorial Sites
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius (“Kaple svatých Cyrila a Metoděje”) is a rectangular building with a three-sided termination. It stands on a slight rise in a wooded area. At the chapel, a descending staircase with a stone balustrade leads to a spring. For visitors interested in religious history and local traditions, a marble plaque is particularly noteworthy: it records the oral tradition that Saints Cyril and Methodius preached and baptised at this site around the year 865.
There is also a small park by the chapel with a monument to the citizens who fell in the First World War.
Castle History as Another Part of the Trip
The history of the castle in Bohušice can also be included in your exploration of the village. Construction began in July 1736. An artificial grotto was built in the garden. After a fire in 1781, the remains of the castle were partly demolished and converted into a farmstead. This sequence offers a different perspective on the destination than a fully preserved castle: the focus is on the building history, the transformation of the site and the traces that historical events have left in the village landscape.
Those who mainly want to get to know the chapel and the castle history will plan differently from someone who wants to fish at Bohušický Pond or explore signposted routes by bicycle and on foot. Bohušice railway station provides step-free access to the station building or stop, as well as to all platforms. This information can play an important role when planning your journey.
