Biskupice-Pulkov combines the landscape of the Rokytná Valley with unusual traces of culture and history. The village is located in Rokytná Nature Park and therefore offers a starting point for a variety of discoveries: a yellow-marked trail through the nature park, a striking group of sculptures, a listed church, archaeological remains and the history of a vanished castle. If you are looking for accommodation in Biskupice-Pulkov, you can therefore plan your stay around your preferred focus – between nature, local history, art and regional cuisine.

Rokytná Nature Park and the Marked Trail

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Rokytná Nature Park. The route can also be travelled by mountain bike. This makes it possible to explore the landscape in two different ways without reducing the village to a single excursion destination. The Rokytná River and the valley define the geographical setting of Biskupice-Pulkov; the nature park also provides a clear point of reference for anyone who likes to spend their days being active outdoors.

In addition, the European protected area “Biskupice - škola” has been designated, covering an area of 0.0366 hectares. This figure describes a clearly defined protected-area designation and should not be confused with the size of the entire nature park.

The Church, Archaeology and the Traces of Pulkov

Biskupice is home to the Church of St Martin, which has been listed as a protected monument since 1958. Its central altarpiece was created by J. Winterhaltr in the second half of the 18th century. On a tour of the village, the church therefore combines a specific work of art with the documented architectural and heritage history of the place.

The settlement’s past can also be traced in the terrain. The archaeological area “hrádek a středověké jádro obce Biskupice” includes the remains of a ditch and rampart belonging to a former fortified site. Paleolithic finds from Biskupice also include flakes from several tools. The finds and medieval fortification remains represent different layers of history that you can discover side by side when exploring the area.

The vanished Pulkov Castle lies approximately 1 km northwest of Pulkov. It survives as a freely accessible archaeological site marked by traces in the terrain. The approximate distance remains tied to the location of Pulkov; it is not an indication of a route or travel time. For visitors interested in history, however, this site remains an independent trace in the surroundings of Biskupice-Pulkov.

Biskupice Safari: Sculptures by the Roadside

A special attraction is the Biskupice Safari. It includes around 80 brightly painted concrete figures of animals and other creatures. The main group of 80 sculptures is currently being restored and is clearly visible from the road. This combination of public visibility and ongoing restoration makes the ensemble an unusual feature of the village’s appearance.

The sculptures created by Františka Blechová are classified by art historians as naive art, also known as Art Brut. The Biskupice Safari is therefore not merely a collection of painted figures, but also an example of an artistic classification that offers an additional perspective when viewing the village.

Beer from the Local Brewery

The local character is also reflected in the beer from Biskupický pivovar Gajdoš. It can be purchased directly at the brewery. In this way, a regional product complements the village’s natural and cultural attractions.
