Vilémovec Between Castle History and Trails

Vilémovec is a place for everyone who wants to combine cultural history with trails through a distinctive landscape. The village was built below Lipnice Castle by Wilhelm, the son of Vitus of Landstein. Vilémovec still bears Wilhelm’s name – an unusual detail that makes the connection between the village’s history and the castle immediately visible.

Lipnice Castle and the Historic Village Center

The state-owned Lipnice Castle features an archaeological exhibition, a Gothic chapel, extensive cellars, and views of the surrounding landscape. At the castle, visitors can therefore explore different areas of the complex: sacred architecture, underground rooms, and the landscape around Lipnice. The medieval and modern-era village center of Vilémovec is also designated as an archaeological site. Archaeological finds have been documented there, or are expected based on well-founded assumptions. The village’s history therefore extends beyond the visible buildings and also includes the historic ground beneath the village.

Art in the Granite Quarries

A distinctive cultural aspect can be found in the flooded granite quarries near Lipnice Castle. This is where the Národní památník odposlechu art gallery is located, featuring the works Bretschneiderovo ucho, Zlaté oči and Ústa pravdy. All the works are connected by a well-marked trail. The art gallery thus complements a visit to the castle with a place where art, quarries, and landscape come together along a single route.

Hiking and Cycling with Clearly Defined Route Connections

Cycling route No. 19 from Lipnice to Havlíčkův Brod passes through Vilémovec. Near Lipnice, this cycling route runs together with the blue-marked hiking route to the castle. A yellow-marked hiking trail also passes through the village and continues beyond the settlement along a paved road. Cyclists and hikers therefore encounter several marked connections here, each following its own route.

The course of the blue-marked hiking route also has a specific peculiarity: On its way through the forest, it temporarily disappears. It then reaches Vilémovec, where a yellow-marked hiking trail runs. In the wider regional area, the Haškova cesta educational trail connects Světlá nad Sázavou and Lipnice over 12 kilometers. In addition to the trails immediately around the village, this makes it possible to include a longer connection between the two towns.

Spring Stop at Kolem Světlé 2026

Studánka Vilémovec u Lipnice is listed as a spring stop at the Kolem Světlé 2026 event. It is one of up to 13 spring stops; there are two refreshment stations along the route. At this event, the spring stop connects Vilémovec with a route that includes several water sources and refreshment points.
