Between wet meadows, ponds, an ornithological observation trail, and cultural destinations, a varied picture emerges that is suitable both for active days and for peaceful discoveries.

Wet meadows, ponds, and special nature-observation opportunities

A defining part of the landscape is the Havranka Nature Reserve. It extends across the cadastral territories of Jiříkov u Kamene and Sedletín and protects a complex of wet meadows, tall-sedge vegetation, and wet marsh marigold or thistle meadows. This distinctive landscape makes Sedletín particularly interesting for travelers who want to get to know not only settlements but also characteristic habitats during their stay.

At the Ornithological Observation Trail, you can combine nature observation with exercise. The trail is fully walkable along its 3 km length. In addition to the most common mallard, six other duck species can be observed there over the course of the year. Great crested grebes also occur regularly and breed near the Ornithological Observation Trail. Those traveling with children can use such specific opportunities for observation to enrich their stay with shared discoveries without structuring the entire day around just one excursion destination.

Cycling and seasonal nature experiences

Cyclists will also find an interesting point of reference in the locally designated offerings: A section of Cycle Route 4153 was opened in 2002 in the northern part of Sedletín’s cadastral territory. If you would like to include a cycling tour in your trip, you should take this section into account when making specific plans and organize your intended day around it.

A special date in the nature calendar is “Welcoming the Birdsong.” The event is organized by OK Vysočina every year around the turn of April and May in connection with the Ornithological Observation Trail. The Sedletín ponds add to the character of the water-rich surroundings. They are the locality leased by OK Vysočina for the longest period; water irises bloom there.

History, the menhir, and local culture

Sedletín probably originated at the end of the 14th century at a branch from the Liběcká Road to the Habrská Road. This history of its origins provides a historical framework for viewing the settlement today. In the vicinity of Sedletín, near the road from Habry to Chotěboř, stands the four-meter-high Menhir u Sedletína, set into the ground and also called Vysoký Kámen. The menhir was erected in 2002 by the Vysočina Nature Conservation Association. For visitors interested in culture, it is an independent, clearly identified point of interest.

Local culture also includes the “Sedletín Cultural Summer.” This is a series of dance events held on the summer dance floor in the center of Sedletín. Depending on your personal interests, you can use this to complement nature observation and landscape experiences with a cultural aspect.

Sedletín can be reached via Road II/346. A hike documented on October 5, 2025, began behind the community center of Sedletín.
