Maleč Between Landscape and Memory

The Maleč Trail: Nature and Small Discoveries

The trail “Za hejkaly do Železných hor a na zámek Maleč” is at the heart of the nature experience. It runs around Maleč Château and through the landscape with old trees along the Doubrava. The shorter version of the Maleč Trail can be navigated with an all-terrain stroller and by bicycle. This offers families looking for a shorter outing a practical option without having to forgo a ride through the landscape.

The Maleč Trail also connects various discoveries: it includes a sheep bridge and an opportunity to search for fossils. Maleč Château as a Place of Remembrance

Maleč Château is presented as a memorial to F. L. Rieger and F. Palacký. František Palacký spent the last 14 years of his life at the château. The exhibition includes restored interiors with original furnishings, as well as the preserved studies of F. L. Rieger and F. Palacký. Thus, the focus is not only on the building itself but also on its connection with two figures whose names are linked to the history of the château.

Church, Village Square, and Historic Route

The cultural history of Maleč also includes the Protestant church. It was built from 1891 to 1894 in the Neo-Renaissance style with a tower and was ceremonially opened on June 28, 1896. In the village square, Baroque statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint John of Nepomuk form a group together with a cross and a wooden bell tower. The statue group includes a sandstone statue of the Virgin Mary dated 1685 and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1707.

Maleč also lies on the historic Libická stezka route. This connection broadens the view beyond individual buildings and places the village within a historic route network.
