Klokočov: Ridge, Chrudimka River and History

Klokočov lies on the ridge of the Železné hory above the Chrudimka valley. The village combines its elevated location with the landscape around the Chrudimka. Between the ridge, the wooded valley, marked trail sections and historic buildings, there are several different points of interest for a trip. The elevated village location and the Chrudimka valley form two distinct landscapes; the route via the Mladiny trail junction to the Na Pilce rock formations connects these perspectives with a marked hiking section.

Hiking between Mladiny and Na Pilce

On the section towards the Mladiny trail junction, the “Na procházce po okolí” route follows a yellow-marked hiking trail. From the Mladiny trail junction, you can reach the Na Pilce rock formations via a blue-marked section of the trail; the destination is about 200 metres further on. The sequence of yellow and blue markings, together with the approximate distance, makes it easier to place this section in a day’s itinerary. This allows you to combine the hike with a visit to the religious buildings or Zámeček Klokočov.

Na Pilce lies in a wooded valley on the Chrudimka near the Seč Reservoir. Na Pilce includes a mill wheel. There is also a recreational property below Klokočov on the Chrudimka. This lower-lying landscape therefore differs markedly from Klokočov’s location on the ridge. The river, forest and rock formations shape this part of the destination.

Memorial Tree, Chapel and Zámeček

The Klokočovská lípa is a state-protected memorial tree in Klokočov. It is described as one of the oldest living trees in Bohemia. At the same time, it probably served as an important landmark on the medieval Libická trade route. This tree therefore brings together a specific natural site and a historical connection to the surrounding area.

The Chapel of St John is a small church building with an apse and a small tower, probably dating from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Services are held every Sunday in summer at the Protestant church building in Klokočov. The chapel is characterised by its small structure with an apse and a small tower; the Protestant church building, by contrast, is the place where the services held every Sunday in summer take place.

Zámeček Klokočov was built in 1789 by Jan Karel Schönowetz of Ungarswert. The entire Zámeček Klokočov property can be rented.
