Hostačov: Castle history in an expansive parkland setting

Hostačov offers an unusual combination of historic architecture, landscaped grounds, and various event formats. At its center is Hostačov Castle, which is classified as a protected cultural monument. The historic site is complemented by 12 hectares of parkland, woodland paths for walking, and a disc golf course located directly beside the castle. This makes it possible to plan a stay around different interests: you can explore the history of the site, spend time outdoors, or try a sporting activity.

Castle, Fortress, and Historic Economic Activity

The castle was built after the mid-16th century on the site of a Gothic fortress or Gothic manor house. Heřman Bohdanecký of Hodkov bought the fortress in 1557 and gradually converted it into a castle. Hostačov originally also included an estate farm, a brewery, an inn, and the fortress. This development also makes the site interesting for visitors who want to understand not just a single attraction, but the formation of a historic group of buildings.

A distinctive architectural detail is the castle courtyard. On three sides, it is surrounded by pillar arcades on both the ground and upper floors. The history of the estate also includes a sugar factory that belonged to Hostačov from 1846 onward and is considered one of the first in the Čáslav region. The castle, former fortress, and economic facilities thus represent different phases of the site's history.

Park Paths and Disc Golf Beside the Castle

The present-day grounds cover 12 hectares of parkland. The area includes woodland paths for walking, allowing a historic visit to be combined with time in nature. Another distinctive feature is the Hostačov disc golf course, located directly beside the castle. The course was designed primarily for competitive players. However, complete beginners can also play the first nine holes. This creates a clear distinction for groups with different levels of prior experience between more demanding play and an easier introduction.

Events in Different Seasons

Hostačov is described not only as a historic site, but also as a place shaped by a seasonally varied event program. In spring and autumn, this includes multi-day research retreats and training sessions with overnight accommodation. In summer, Hostačov opens its grounds for festivals, conferences, and weddings. For outdoor events, the grounds offer space for up to 250 people in summer.
