Golčův Jeníkov: Discover History and Trails

Golčův Jeníkov can be discovered through two major themes: the long history of the Jewish Quarter and the cemetery church Kostel sv. Markéty. There is also an educational trail, a traditional hiking march and several destinations in the surrounding area. If you would like to combine culture and trails on your trip to the Czech Republic, the town offers concrete starting points for doing so.

Jewish Quarter and Cemetery Church

The roots of Jewish settlement in the Jewish Quarter of Golčův Jeníkov date back to the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century. The first written mention dates from 1654. This makes the quarter one of the historical traces through which the town’s development can be traced particularly far back.

A separate focal point is the cemetery church Kostel sv. It is the oldest surviving architectural monument in Golčův Jeníkov and already served its religious purpose in the 14th century. Inside, it preserves a Gothic portal and gravestones; the oldest gravestones date from the 16th century. The church was rebuilt in 1821 and reconstructed again in 1905. For your visit, this provides a building in which medieval origins, historical gravestones and later alterations can all be seen together.

Educational Trail and Hiking March

The Naučná stezka k Římovicím educational trail leads from Linden Alley to Římovice and includes ten stations. This structure divides the route into individual sections and makes orientation along the way easier. The start at Linden Alley and the destination in Římovice indicate the direction of the hike. In addition, the Pochod kolem Jakubovic – Pupíku Evropy 2026 hiking march took place for the 20th time. There were two routes for the march; one of them started at the town hall in Golčův Jeníkov. When planning, you can therefore choose between the station-based route to Římovice and a march with two routes.

Landscape in the Surrounding Area

The Krkanka and Bučina mountains are located around Golčův Jeníkov. The hill (Na Hatích) [Golčův Jeníkov-Římovice] is also located nearby. The wider regional surroundings include Ostojovka mountain [Ledeč nad Sázavou-Souboř] and Zámek Kačina Castle. These different designations – mountain, hill and castle – provide factual orientation for choosing between local history, trails and more broadly defined excursion destinations, without combining the destinations into a single route.
