Discover Dlouhá Ves: Church, Water Landscape and Cycling Routes

Dlouhá Ves combines history, a diverse water landscape and several cycling opportunities. The Sázava, small pools along streams and a listed church give the village a distinctive character. History and Sacred Culture in the Village Center

Dlouhá Ves was founded in 1256 during the colonization of the region on the left bank of the Sázava by the Teutonic Order. In the center stands the Church of St. Nicholas in a cemetery complex that also includes a mortuary chapel. The building was constructed around 1260 as a single-nave Gothic church with a rectangular ground plan and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

An unusually large number of medieval or Gothic Revival sculptures from various iconographic traditions and stylistic periods have been preserved inside the church. The sacred building therefore offers not only a historical setting but also specific details to discover culturally on site. The Reconciliation Stone is also located in the northern part of Dlouhá Ves. The Reconciliation Stone near Mlýnský rybník bears an engraved paw cross.

The Sázava and Natural Watercourses

The Sázava forms part of the northern boundary of the cadastral area of Dlouhá Ves. A distinctive landscape form can be found along the Dlouhoveský stream and its tributaries: there are numerous small pools, often arranged in cascades. The bed of the Dlouhoveský stream and its tributaries is predominantly natural and meandering. Watercourses, cascades and the river boundary therefore shape a different character of the village than the church in the center.

Cycling Between Cities and Forest Paths

Dlouhá Ves lies on a cycling route connecting Havlíčkův Brod and Přibyslav. In the surrounding area, you can cycle along forest paths in the direction of Šlapanov and Dvorek. Cycling Route 19 is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. This provides different destinations and landscapes for planning a day trip: the route to Havlíčkův Brod or Přibyslav connects the village with two cities, while the forest paths toward Šlapanov and Dvorek remain in the immediate vicinity. Those using Cycling Route 19 can plan to use a mountain bike or trekking bike. This allows the choice of bicycle to be tailored to the planned route and your own riding style.

Havlíčkův Brod and Přibyslav are also important reference points for arrival and orientation. Dlouhá Ves can be reached from Havlíčkův Brod via Class III Road No. 03815. Bus services can be used in the direction of Havlíčkův Brod and Přibyslav.
