Vlachovice lies at an elevation of 754 metres and is considered a typical mountain village in the Žďárské vrchy. Together with Rokytno, it is one of the municipalities at the second-highest elevation in the area. At 754 metres, Vlachovice lies higher than the source of the Bobrůvka at 725 metres; the elevations refer to different points within the same landscape area.

Hiking, Cross-Country Skiing and Cycling

Blue- and green-marked hiking trails pass through Vlachovice.

A cross-country skiing route runs from the Vysočina Arena via Vlachovice and Sykovec. At the Yukon settlement, the “Sedlo” sign marks the turn-off to Rokytno and Penzion U Martina. The branch track there is groomed both for classic style and skating. In classic style, the skis run in prepared tracks; in skating, they glide with a sideways motion over the groomed surface. The two terms therefore refer to different forms of movement on the same cross-country skiing route through the landscape.

A minor cycle path connects Fryšava with Medlovský rybník and Sykovec pond.

Landscape between a Protected Area and a Watershed

Part of Vlachovice lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. A protected landscape area is a protected landscape region. Since only part of Vlachovice belongs to it, this protection status does not automatically apply to the entire built-up area. The Bobrůvka rises in the territory of Vlachovice u Rokytna in the Žďárské vrchy at an elevation of 725 metres.

Northwest of Vlachovice lies the Tři smrky elevation at 776 metres. It is located directly on the European watershed between the Elbe and Danube drainage basins. The watershed separates the drainage basins of the Elbe and Danube; it therefore forms the boundary between two river systems. A drainage basin comprises the areas whose water flows into the same river system. Areas on the two sides of the watershed therefore drain into different river systems. Tři smrky offers a panoramic view; in good visibility, Kralický Sněžník can also be seen. In Vlachovice itself, Bílá skála is designated as a viewpoint at an elevation of 776 metres. The two elevation figures of 776 metres refer to different points: Tři smrky lies northwest of the village, while Bílá skála is in Vlachovice itself.

History and Regional Vernacular Architecture

Vlachovice was founded before 1496 in the domain of Nové Město. Vlachovice lies in a region of vernacular architecture known as “HORÁCKÝ DŮM”. Vernacular architecture refers to the traditional building style of a region; “HORÁCKÝ DŮM” here denotes this regional building culture.

Part of the village contains an area with archaeological finds.
