Velké Tresné is a destination where nature experiences and unusual local history stand closely side by side. The municipality of Velké Tresné was included in the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park in 1995. This nature park was established to protect the character of the landscape and preserve its natural and cultural values. The Nyklovický potok Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Velké Tresné and covers 11.74 ha. The spatial scale thus ranges from the entire municipal area to the 11.74-ha area of the natural monument within the cadastral area of Velké Tresné. The locality therefore includes both integration into a protected landscape area and a natural monument with a clearly defined area.

Hiking on Different Trails

For active days, there are several clearly distinct routes around Velké Tresné. The 15-km spring trip “Bledule u Nyklovického potoka” follows a red-marked hiking trail from Rovečné to Velké Tresné. The red-marked route connects two places and is not a loop. Its direction is defined by the starting point in Rovečné and the destination of Velké Tresné.

A shorter alternative is the “Okolo Rovečného přes Malé a Velké Tresné” hiking route. It is an 8.5-km circular hike and reaches Velké Tresné at the Na Petrově inn. Along the way, the route passes the remains of a former graphite mine. These remains lie before the subsequent descent to Velké Tresné. Here, the route is explicitly a loop, while the spring trip runs between Rovečné and Velké Tresné. Anyone looking for a shorter circular hike will find a different route format here than on the 15-km trail.

Cycling Route through the Svratka Highlands

The “Forgotten World of the Svratka Highlands” cycling route begins in Velké Tresné and leads back to Tresné through deep forests. The starting point is therefore in Velké Tresné, while the described return route runs through the deep forests to Tresné. The route connects a starting point with a forest section and a return to Tresné.

Museum, Gallery and Graphite History

The museum and gallery of the municipality of Velké Tresné are housed in the local fire station. Both institutions are therefore located at a shared site within the municipality. In addition, a graphite deposit up to 14 metres thick was discovered in limestone near Velké Tresné in 1854. The figure of up to 14 metres refers to the thickness of the deposit. Alongside the former graphite mine on the hiking route, a historic deposit in limestone near Velké Tresné is therefore also documented.
